The venom that Eagles fans didn’t direct at horses, Tom Brady and their own city following the team’s Super Bowl LII victory was saved for Cris Collinsworth.

The NBC color man introduced himself as Public Enemy No. 1 in Philadelphia on Sunday night, when he reacted with incredulity to a pair of Eagles touchdowns remaining touchdowns in the season of the overturned catch.

All year, fans and players have raged at the controversial non-catches, in which receptions that are plain to the eye are deemed incomplete for not “surviving the ground” or what officials rule is a bobble. That changed in Minneapolis, where two Eagles scores were confirmed by replay.

This wasn’t the game Collinsworth had watched all season.

“I give up,” the former Bengals receiver said after Corey Clement reeled in a third-quarter catch at the back of the end zone, in which the ball did appear to move but apparently not enough to change the NFL’s mind. “If that ball’s not loose in his arms when that last foot came down, I give up.”

Collinsworth also questioned the game-deciding touchdown, a pass to Zach Ertz that saw the tight end take three steps and dive into the end zone, where the ball came loose.

He wondered aloud about the call before throwing up his hands: “I’m not even taking a guess.”

As Collinsworth tried to dissect the controversial catch rule, Eagles fans — and some not-as-biased spectators — wanted to dissect him.

“Cris Collinsworth can never be allowed to call a game again,” Congressman Brendan Boyle (D-Pennsylvania) wrote. “It’s a catch and a TD.”

“Collinsworth making it clear who he wants to win. Lol,” Redskins running back Chris Thompson wrote.

“NBC’s Cris Collinsworth couldn’t accept the Eagles scored a touchdown during the Super Bowl,” was the Philly.com headline.

“Great win for the city,” one fan crowed on a Fox interview. “And Cris Collinsworth, take that, baby!”

seems like he's as confused as everyone else, including Eagles fans

can anyone say with absolute certainty they know how the replay officials are going to rule?

I actually thought I had it down pretty good, and then the Clement's catch happened and I'm back to having no fucking clue. Just have to wait and see what they come up with when they come up with it

The Ertz catch I'll give them he was a runner and only had to cross the plain, although they don't make that call consistently and why did it take 5 fucking minutes to arrive at that conclusion? Politics anyone? were they discussing stuff like WTF do we do with this now?

Maybe they did want anyone to get murdered in Philly :)

This is why I posted the article Willie, the NFL refs are shady & call these plays anyway they see fit to whatever reason they gave to call it that way.

Steelers catch vs Pats had every Pitt fan seeing red & people complaining about the refs not knowing what a catch is, & Pats fans stated that the same thing was done with Dez Bryant, but I've seen catches like we saw yesterday called the other way & the catch stood.......seen it called way too many times both ways, hence why I thought the refs screwed up the Pitt TD catch vs Pats.

These refs will continue to call it to whatever narrative they have going for that specific game......WTF knows how its gonna be called & with legal sports betting coning to 8 to 12 states right away, we will see a lot more shadiness & a lot more fans complaining.

You keep referring to the "refs". Lets be clear: All of these decisions are made by the replay official, not the crew on the field.

Yes, but the people in NY have a ref that does the play calling or am I wrong? Either way, they're all crooked as shit & the NFL would be so much better if they got rid of video replay.......damn I miss the days with no replay.
