Market closed 1,175 points down. At one point the market was down 1,500 points.

Sounds massive but not quite as bad as it seems on surface. 1000+ pts not what it used to be w/ inflation.

in terms of % it’s not close to the worst day.

It looks bad because the market stealthily went up to 25K. In most peoples minds it's like Dow is still around 10,000 and 1000pt drop would be a disaster. A 400pt drop happened back then and it was bad but today it looks like the sky is falling. In reality the total market fell around 4% today.

Dow Jones never been much of an indicator either. No clue why the financial media uses it over the S&P.

Maybe they just like the big #'s and it makes for better headlines, but people should obviously pay attention to S&P more when using an index to gauge their own investments.

They have been using the Dow as indicator going back on TV to the fifties and before that on radio and the newspapers. I can remember on TV when the Dow averages were 300 or 400 and they use to close the news saying the Dow was down 1 and 1/2 points in heavy trading.

Hannity been bragging about how awesome the stock market has been because of trump then last night he blamed obama for yesterday.

The weak bond market got this party started a few days ago, but seems to be trying to settle down now ( at least temporarily ) I believe today's trouble is a little bit artificial , as you have some derivative short Vol ETNs from Credit Suise completely blowing up
