This was posted in 2015 .... how things have changed .....

Since 2004, per Kenpom.com, 84 teams have had a top-10 offense or defense paired with an offense or defense that ranked worse than 70th. Guess how many made the Final Four? One: the 2012 Louisville Cardinals, who were an insanely good defensive team. Only three of these one-track bullies — 2014 Michigan, 2012 Florida, and 2011 Arizona — have made the Elite Eight. And 15 have made the Sweet 16. The takeaway: 82.1 percent of these teams did not make the Sweet 16 and 96.4 percent did not make the Elite Eight.

The teams to seriously avoid in 2015: Notre Dame (again), Davidson, BYU, Indiana (again), Iowa State (again), San Diego State (miserableoffense), Louisville, and a special clause for Butler, which verges very close to the limit on the offensive side.

Breakdown

2015

ND # 3 Seed .....Finished in Elite 8

Off 2 Rank / Def 99 Rank

Louisville # 4 Seed ....Finished in Elite 8

Off 66 Rank / Def 4 Rank

2016

Duke # 4 Seed ... Finished Sweet 16

Off 4 Rank / Def 86 Rank

Iowa St # 4 Seed .... Finished Sweet 16

Off 7 Rank / Def 91 Rank

ND # 6 Seed .....Finished Elite 8

Off 9 Rank / Def 158 Rank

2017

Michigan # 7 Seed .... Finished in Sweet 16

Off 4 Rank / Def 69 Rank

UCLA # 3 Seed .... Finished in Sweet 16

Off 2 Rank / Def 85 Rank

South Carolina # 7 Seed .... Finished Final 4

Off 91 Rank / Def 3 Rank

So that's

4 Teams who reached Sweet 16 Seeded from # 3 Seed to # 7 Seed

3 Teams who reached Elite 8 Seeded from # 3 Seed to # 6 Seed

1 Team who reached Final 4 Seeded at # 7

I expect this trend to continue this year so look for teams that are Seeded between 3 and 7 Seeds who have a discrepancy in their Offense and defensive rankings of at least 62 in rankings ..

Example Louisville

Off Rank 4 .... Def Rank 66 ....

2018 Teams which show the huge discrepancies between Off and Def Ranks that may have a shot of the Sweet 16 .....or Elite 8 .... only 1 team / last year's #7 South Carolina has made the final 4 ....

I will come back to this thread in hopes of removing a team or 2 from the following list with my stats I have on excel from previous Sweet 16 or Elite 8 qualifiers ....

2018 list of teams with shot at Sweet 16 ... I would pick only 1 of these teams ...possibly 2 ( your call )

Kenpom Rank before the team

#5 Duke Off 2 Rank / 79 Def Rank

#17 St Mary's Off 4 Rank / 111 Def Rank

#21 Texas A/M Off 71 Rank / 5 Def Rank

#22 Tcu Off 5 Rank / 128 Def Rank

#24 Arizona Off 8 Rank / 105 Def Rank

#41 NM ST Off 108 Rank / 7 Def Rank

#42 Alabama Off 100 Rank / 10 Def Rank

#43 Texas Off 110 Rank / 8 Def Rank

If I was picking 2 teams to watch they have a big shot of sweet 16 or elite 8

Duke

Tcu .... Exp Rank # 78 .... shot ...if they ever gel ?

St Mary's .... they have an overall SOS Rank of # 172 .... which is not good

Since 2007

There have been 18 / Number 16 Seeds that Covered the Spread out of 44 game match-up vs the 1 Seed ...

18/44 or 41 % ... so in other words the 16 Seed has a 41% of covering vs the 1 Seed since 2007

HUGE FIND

16/18 or 89 % .......16 out of the 18 Dog Covers from the 16 Seed had shot 33 % or better from 3 Point Land ...

So when you look for a 16 Seed to Cover vs a 1 Seed look for the 16 Seed to shoot 33% or better from 3 point land ...

Here's a sure bet if you're looking for one......ALWAYS play the 12's ML against the 5's in Round 1, you won't lose $$. That'll be a dollar, I've now gone tout.

Since 1985 ... went to 64 teams in Tourney

12 Seeds that went to Sweet 16

15 / 20 or 75 % had 20 or more wins before the Tournament ....

Feel this is a money maker guys when it comes to brackets ....

Researching my ass off .... I have a bunch more info on the 12 Seeds from 1998 to present as far as stats to look for , so if interested send me a Private Message ...

Since 2002 11 Seeds have won Straight Up 28 / 68 or 41 % of the time

The Highest Strength of Schedule of any 11 seed Winner from 2002-2017 was 2007 Wyoming # 191 ... so if the Strength of Schedule is above the # 191 , you may consider tossing tossing the 11 seeds chance at winning Straight Up ? Your Call ?

Breaking down the 28 winners with .... Point Distribution off 3 - Pointers ... why is this important ? ... Teams who rely on their points from 3 Pointers can go cold ....so beware ....

21 / 28 Winners from 11 Seeds 2002-2017 had a 3-Point Distribution Percentage of 28% or below which is awesome .... something to look for when Picking 11 Seeds to advance

6 / 28 Winners from 11 Seeds 2002-2017 had a 3-Point Distribution Percentage of 29 % or higher ... which is not good ....but if they are above the 28 % on the 3-Point Distribution Percentage then the team has to shoot over 34 % or higher from 3 Point Land ....

1 / 28 Winners from 11 Seeds 2002-2017 had a 3-Point Distribution Percentage of 29 % or higher ... which is not good ....and their Offensive 3 Point Percentage was below the 34 % requirement when picking an 11 Seed Over a 6 Seed ..... in this case 2016 Wichita St ... they had the Number 1 Best Defense in the Country ...

Example of chart I'm looking at
Point Distribution (% of total points)
3-Pointers:17.632126.8 15826.8
2-Pointers:57.0 4650.9 21952.3
Free Throws:25.5 1022.3 10620.9

<tbody style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; font-size: 14.5455px; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline;">
</tbody>

Notice where it says 3-Pointers ..look over to the red and you see 17.6

That tells me the team ' s total points off 3 Pointers is 18 % ...I round up ....which is crazy good .... you want 28 % or below

If team is 29 % or Higher Reliant Points from 3 Pointers then the teams's offensive 3 Point Percentage must be higher than 34 % ...I prefer 35 to 36 %

Feedback appreciated whenever you guys get a sec , would be cool ....
