Urban Meyer's coaching staff will be paid over $7 million for 2018. The previous
high was Alabama's staff at just under $6 million during the 2017 season.

DC: Greg Schiano $1.5 million
OC: Ryan Day $1.0
Co-OC: Kevin Wilson $800,000
Co-DC: Alex Grinch $800,000
DL: Larry Johnson $750,000
RB: Tony Alford $525,000
LB: Bill Davis $500,000
OL: Greg Studrawa $500,000
CB: Taver Johnson $345,000
WR: Zack Smith $340,000

Meyer made $6.4 during 2017 and will probably get a bump in salary for 2018. His
2017 salary ranked 4th nationally. Man, these coaching salaries are getting up there!

Looks like former Florida head coach Jim McElwain will be joining Harbaugh's Michigan
staff. Don't know more than that....................

I'm thinking ole Jimmy Harbaugh needs a standout year this season. Some think he has
the team coming back to challenge for the Big Ten...don't know but Ohio State sure ain't
sitting on their hands with regards to paying good coaches. Big 10 will be interesting.

Just my opinion and you Michigan guys please don't go nuts. Harbaugh seems to have a
loose screw or two. He better win big this year or maybe fans will agree with me.

Georgia has four assistants who will make at least $825,000 this season including DC
Mel Tucker who will earn $1.5 million.

LSU's Dave Amanda will earn an incredible $2.5 million this season as defensive coordinator.

Back in 2013, there were only five assistants in the entire FBS making at least $825,000.

McElwain will coach wide receivers for the Wolverines. Don't have any contract information.

Georgia has increased its assistant coaches pool to $6.4 million that will put them at
#3 nationally behind Ohio State and Clemson. Kirby Smart made $3.75 during 2017
and you can bet he's about to receive a big increase.

DC Mel Tucker $1.5 million
OC Jim Chaney $950,000
WR James Coley $850,000
OL Sam Pittman $825,000
RB Del McGee $550,000
DL Tray Scott $420,000
ILB Glenn Schumann $325,000
OLB Dan Lanning $325,000
ST Scott Fountain $300,000
10th assistant Cortez Hankton $375,000

*Georgia has announced a ticket price increase for the 2018 season.

Dell McGee needs to be paid more. His recruiting is worth more than coaching imo.

Also UGA had a profit of 47 million this year in the Athletic Department. I think it's OK to pay the bead winners.

Be careful guys, Title lX is always looming; The activists will find a way to spend all these "profits" for non-revenue generating sports (can the game of Inter-collegiate Jax be far away). Heaven forbid that it be re-invested in the sport that generated the profit.

Tennessee's Jeremy Pruitt has officially announced members of his coaching staff and it looks
like a pretty good one. The coaches have over 50 years experience and have been apart of
7 national championships and 21 conference titles. Take a look.

OC: Tyson Helton
OL: Will Friend
RB: Robert Gillespi
WR: David Johnson
TE: Brian Niedermeyer
DC: Kevin Sherrer
LB: Chris Rump
CB: Terry Fair
DL: Tracy Rocker
ST: Charles Kelly

These guy's have a huge task ahead of them for the 2018 season. I have my doubts the Vols
will have a winning season...maybe 6-6 if things go well.

6 & 6 with a stadium that holds more than 100,000 fans..The "new" Volunteer coaching staff has the pressure lid on them 6 months before the
opening kick-off.................. gulp.................

Mack, I believe Pruitt can turn the culture around in Knoxville and bring the Vols back toward their glory days. He
understands defense and what that means to a football team and he understands the value of recruiting. He's an
ole Alabama country boy but he's one hell of a recruiter. I see him making a big difference in the program around
year three. That 100,000 fans you spoke of need to give him a chance.

The question is if he will have a long enough leash. I see 3 years of .500 seasons. He has to beat UF, UGA, and USCe. That could be easier said than done.

Coaching in the SEC does present challenges.......The "heat" is always on......I can see why the "Bear" went rabbit hunting to get away from it all; It would be interesting to know what Saban does to take the "edge-off".......

Mack, coach Saban loves being on the lake. He has a big home on Lake Burton in north Georgia where he spends
off time with the family. He has said that once he retires...he will live on some lake.

You are right that these big salaries bring high expectations on coaches. Not just winning games but putting fans
in the seats. During the 2017 season, only 28% of the 129 bigtime programs showed an increase over the previous
season. Just three SEC teams showed an increase (Kentucky, South Carolina, Vanderbilt). Tickets have gotten so
high especially for some of these non-conference games.

I can't argue with anything you said, but keep in mind - attendance and ticket sales are not synonymous. Take bama and AU, for example. Last year bama's attendance dropped roughly 100 per game (101,821 to 101,722) while Auburn dropped 500 (86,937 to 86,446). This drop didn't happen because tickets sales dropped - both teams completely sold out their season ticket allotment and could have sold more if they were available. Instead, it was an indifference by season ticket holders to the ridiculous non-conference schedule both teams played.

Another point that validates your original post about the high cost of non-conference games and the need to fill seats. Not only has ticket prices skyrocketed but so has the cost of contributing. At most, if not all, major universities in the SEC buying tickets from the athletic department to high profile games no longer exists. If you want those tickets you have to purchase season tickets. And, if you want season tickets you have to contribute - a lot. Low attendance to non-conference games won't have a significant negative impact on a coaching change, but if season ticket demands drop a coaching change is inevitable.

Excellent post DL.

I have a couple of friends who buy Bama season tickets and give away the non-conference games. You are right
about the extra contributions needed to get those season tickets.

I agree this is a strong group of coaches. I really like the DC and DL coaches. The one promotion I here grumblings about
is Mike Locksley to offensive coordinator. Saban has had five OC in the past seven years and won four NC so it's hard to
argue against his judgement. Six new coaches....that's a big turnover.

yeah, Locksley a question mark but ran a run-heavy offense at Illinois and got Mendenhall a 1st round selection plus adding Enos will allow him to get a different opinion on game plan. Personally i wanted Enos or Canada as OC when this process began so to get him and promote Locksley is best case scenario

love the staff and bringing in Enos, Gattis, and Kuligowski was probably a little better than i expected. then again i hated the Daboll hiring and he won a national title so what do i know?

Locksley was rumored big-time to UF last off-season.....then Saban stepped in and offered him a on-field position. I think there was a gentleman's agreement that Locksley was next in line for the OC job. Just my opinion.

I'm curious to see what Alabama's staff salaries are once it's announced. I have to say, this is probably Saban's most unimpressive staff in 11+ years. I like that he removed the RB coach - but it's still a ruthless move by Saban.

WTF is Harbaugh thinking hiring Butters (McElwain)?? The guy is a cancer and Peter-Principled at UF. Michigan is in most pre-season Top 10's, they return a lot of talent. But I don't see it (that ranking). I'm not sure how much longer he lasts in Ann Arbor...
