Starting star freshman PG Goodwin was just suspended for the rest of the season, so now, 4 of the 5 scholarship guards at SLU are out. Goodwin was a tall slashing # 2 in high school, a 4* who learned to play PG at SLU as the season went on; had several double doubles and a triple double in the last few weeks, scored 28 his last game.

The other three guards were suspended earlier and did not play all year, have left the team and the university.

Now Goodwin is gone for the rest of this season (though he can come back next season the others cannot)

SO they are down to one scholarship guard, an experienced senior, Roby, who is really a # 2 but has and will play PG, and a short walk on, very mistake prone Hines, who has played a lot under these circumstances already. A # 3, Bess, can handle the ball a bit but he is no guard, he is a 6'6" slashing wing. There is another walk on that might get in he’s played 3-5 minutes or so this year.

Richmond is no powerhouse but you might want to take a look at them Saturday in this spot. SLU is down to 7 scholarship players, and although they have a good front line, if even one of them (esp. French) gets into any kind of foul trouble, they will be in deep trouble.

The two SLU guards should be exhausted, too, by mid second half and frankly the last straw for the team is that now even Goodwin is being punished (for questionable school policies tied into a Title IX investigation) IMO the team, on the road, might finally give in to the overwhelming adversity.

Not sure of all the other circumstances with this game but it is Richmond, small, medium, or large depending on other issues. the line, etc, TBD. Do not look at recent SLU results, this changes everything.

Richmond is - 1.5...

Roby is a below average PG, is really a #2. He is a streaky 3 pt shooter but mostly on bad streaks.
Hines is a turnover train wreck is way too aggressive though he too can get hot.
SLU has faded all year in 2nd half even with Goodwin. Now with him out I just can’t see them prevailing. To boot, the team has fought thru the adversity all year and had some hope as Goodwin developed but imo they might finally give up on the road after getting this news.
I am going with Richmond, big.
