Former Buffalo Bills linebacker Robert Eddins was found dead in his grandmother’s basement back in 2016 as Detroit police were investigating a double homicide. On Thursday, TMZ Sports reported that three men who were drug dealers have been charged in connection to those killings.

Per the report, the three men “were part of a plot to deal more than 5 kilos of cocaine and heroin.”

The three men allegedly traveled from Alabama to Detroit with the specific intent to kill Eddins. The other man in the room, Ricardo McFarlin, was also murdered. Both were found with gunshots to the head, “execution style.”

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration issued a statement, saying, “The murders of Eddin and McFarlin is just another example of how violence is intertwined with drug trafficking.”

Eddins was signed by the Bills as an undrafted free agent out of Ball State back in 2011. He ended up suffering an injury that year, was placed on injured reserve and then waived with an injury settlement. He later signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2014 but injured his hamstring during preseason and was subsequently cut.
