Ok so the consensus is this is getting passed. So at that point who is running this? Are the states going to run it like the lotto? Private gaming companies? Both? Will this be on a state by state basis?

It could vary.

For example, here's a piece from the thread about Kansas Sports betting:

"Kessinger’s bill would allow the Kansas Lottery to operate the sports betting market at the state’s casinos or online."

I think they should leave it to the Professionals. just my opinion

MGM is ready to build a Sportsbook next to the
Borgata. they say it will cost about $7million

William Hill already has a deal with
Monmouth Park. Where I heard they have almost everything in place and it will take a few weeks to be up and running

I agree.

In all honesty I can see the NBA's argument preferring federal framework so that all states run the same rules & regulations across the board.

However, the leagues have no right to "integrity fees".

They'll receive enough compensation with new & renewed interest in their sports with legal sports betting.

I want the states involved as little as possible..private industry will run it right. The state on the other handle with have doubled vig..shitty lines. I also agree have some federal standard in place vs every state doing something different..stick with the Vegas model

I would imagine in most states there will be a process for private companies to become licensed providers.

Like I’ve said in other threads. Be prepared for 13/10 odds
this is not gonna be like Vegas. At least I don’t think. Also what’s the spread gonna Be on a game like OU v FSU? In Tallahassee FSU-3 in Norman OU -7?

Hopefully you can bet individual games and they don't come with parlay cards or some such shenanigans.

If state-sponsored providers offer 13/10 or whatever, serious gamblers will just continue to play offshore/illegally. They have to know that. The competition from offshore will at least somewhat keep them in check, if they really want to scoop the majority of volume.

Offering 13/10 is tripping over dollars to pick up pennies.

They need to offer the same Lines, otherwise this will be a Huge Fail

Great points betall and harry

i just have a strange feeling they are gonna include gimmicks like high juice or parlays only
look at the state run lottery they put 40+ %in towards the prizes/ payouts and waste the rest 60% of the money. States need to legalize it and stay out of it. But I’m from Oklahoma and if u play black jack in Indian casinos u have to pay a ante per hand . Just ridiculous I live in Naples now and last night was in Miami the hard rock was Wall to Wall no ante on black jack. Not sure why the Seminole get away From antes and the Cherokee’s in Oklahoma requires it. Sports betting will be just the same way.
the tribe ships ante goes to the state as their tax . Now sports will be carved up and fees out the ass or parlAys with awful odds. Or 13/10 straight bets. I just can’t imagine a true set up in place that’s good for the public bettors. And let’s say the Naples dog track is my local out for legal sports betting
and my son lives in Norman ok attending college
is the point spread gonna be the same ? I know not exactly but locals adjust because of the local teams. Will the Creek nation in Oklahoma have the Sooners -7 and Naples dog track have the U +4 versus Ou?

At the private ones you'll see -110. I imagine the ones run by the state will be -115, like the pro line in Canada, and it will be parlays only.

parlays won't cut it. to ME, that's not legalized Sports gambling

that might work for Delaware , it won't work for NY / NJ and others looking to get into the business

I agree, and most States will privatize it. NJ it will be private for sure. Letting the state run it like a lottery is really a bad idea for everyone.

Actually the Hard Rock is in Hollywood, FL

Anyway back on topic ...

you're going to see bigger juice, agree with Chazz, -115 probably, maybe even -120
even though I don't think they need it.

That's why I said they need the Pros to handle all this

they need to take a look at Nev. and copy their format. They need to legalize gambling and let the Casinos run it, and each State get's their Taxes
That's how they are going to make money.

Same goes for any Race Tracks that will handle any Sports Betting. An Outside ownership runs these racinos, and the State get's theirs

No reason the States should be running the Casinos

Forgot to add that the lines Need to be universal, Just like Nevada is with Offshore.
sure there can be slightly shaded lines, just like some Books. -4 or -4.5. But it can't be -4 in one State and -7 in another

If its -4 in one state, & -7 in another, some of the big players will play both sides.

I don't think it will be any different than what Vegas is compared to offshore.

NJ, Pa, De, NY will have str wagers at -110, they're not stupid, they know they need to compete with other states.......& if they try & be fancy with higher juice, their players will go to another state to play which is right next door.

In Delaware's case full wagering was voted in by the state..However, when the 3rd circuit 3 judge panel heard the case brought against Delaware by the league owners, they ruled that Delaware could only have parley betting, because that's what they had previously . Delaware asked for the Supreme Court to hear their case and they were turned down, back when it was..So they were forced to only offer parlays then.. Hopefully a CLEAR victory for NJ will allow states to do what they wish and not simply some NJ only victory; as far out as that seems.
