Several major casinos on the Las Vegas Strip continue to make it more expensive to gamble by raising controversial resort fees and parking rates.

MGM Resorts International became the latest operator to hike the price of a visit to most of its Las Vegas Strip properties, raising resort fees at 10 of its 13 casino hotels this week.

MGM’s mid-range properties, including MGM Grand, The Mirage, and Mandalay Bay, will see resort fees go up up by $2 to $37. Lower-end properties including Luxor and Excalibur will see resort fees raised by $5 to $35. Plus, resort fees at Circus Circus on the North end of the Strip are going up $2 to $30.

Resort fees at MGM properties including Vdara, Bellagio, and Aria are not going up.

CASINO RESORT FEES KEEP RISING

Caesars Entertainment also raised resort fees at many of it’s Las Vegas Strip properties March 1. Resort fees went up $5 to $35 a night at Bally’s, Flamingo, Harrah’s and The Linq. The fees were also raised $2 to $37 a night at Cromwell, Paris and Planet Hollywood. Plus, resort fees were hiked to $39 at Caesars Palace.

This marked the third year in a row Caesars Entertainment has raised resort fees. Las Vegas Sands has also increased resort fees at its properties twice over the past two years.

Resort fees have become a source of controversy because they can be misleading. Although unavoidable, the fees are not often included in published room rates. Particularly on internet booking sites, where they may not appear until after a room has been selected.

The Las Vegas *************** reports attorneys general in 46 states, as well as the District of Columbia, are currently investigating the legality of imposing resort fees. Nevada is not among those states.

Additionally, the newspaper also claims a class-action lawsuit has been filed against several Las Vegas Strip properties in regards to internet fees.

IS A THING OF THE PAST

Free parking was once a staple perk of the Las Vegas Strip casino experience.

MGM changed that in 2016 when it became the first group of properties to begin charging visitors for parking. Caesars Entertainment properties soon followed suit.

Now, both are raising the parking rates as well. MGM, announced in January it was increasing parking fees at 11 of its 12 Strip properties.

Self-parking at Caesars Palace went up by $2 from $10 to $12 for 1 to 4 hours March 1. Parking rates were also raised at:

Cromwell

Paris

Bally’s

Harrah’s

The Linq

Self-parking is still free at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino just off the Strip. Plus, Caesars properties do not charge to park for 60 minutes or less.

The move to these fees coincided with casino resorts starting to earn a majority of revenue outside of gambling.

With 70 percent or more of Las Vegas Strip resort revenues now being derived from restaurants, shops, shows, and nightlife venues, the properties are no longer offering free parking or waiving resort fees to try to attract gamblers the same way they once did.

Resort fees are certainly out of hand.....They certainly take the value out of any hotel rate advertised ..Pretty close to "bait and switch".....Just be up front and give the total cost.....This is very close to airlines....Hidden fees and so on.......I knew resort fees went out of hand when the El Cortez began charging a resort fee...The topper was when the Downtowner began requiring a resort fee....IMO the Downtowner is about as far away from a resort as one can get...

Wynn isn't free either. TI, Venetian/Palazzo, Strat, Hooters, Circus Circus and Trop are the only free resorts left on the strip.

All of these things are a fucking ripoff. Charging people to park when they are coming to gamble and spend money. Resort fees are a pile of bullshit. Vegas has become NYC with all of the fees and how expensive everything has become.

Yep they will have to make some adjustments to get ppl back.

I concur

when the average man stops going, they're not going to fill their rooms or their restaurants or their shows and they will make changes if or when that day comes

a few points. in regards to parking, which is not cheap, the new arena in
Vegas really forced the issue as the self and valet parking at the nearby
MGM properties would of been overrun if they still had free parking.
this would of hurt gaming and other revenue which would of been unacceptable.
in addition, parking is cheaper or still free for locals and or regular players.
vegas casinos are also visited by a large number of people in for conventions
or visiting who don't even have cars. in regards to higher prices for resort
fees, shopping, rooms, and shows; i'm sure the bean counters that determine
the pricing have a pretty good feel for supply and demand economics. if
it turns out they overestimated demand, they can always lower the price or
offer special packages to their regular clients. those player cards offer so
much marketing info to the casino so that they can contact the correct demographic
quickly to help generate revenue when a drop in demand is noted or feared .

I would agree with the complaints but I was there in Feb and Vegas is jammed packed with people, everywhere. The prices and fee's continue to go up and unless people stop going, they will continue. They are making money hand over fist so no reason to cut prices or give things away for free.

We had a Thread that we talked about the parking fee.
It's because MGM went to a Outside company for their Valet service, and I think they took over the safe parking too.
I'll need to research this some more as I remember I was told that they had signed a Contract to try it out. I Believe it was two Brothers that started this company.

As far as the Resort Fees ... they have been around for a long time.

I believe that Caesars or Harrah’s were the ones that started it ( maybe before the two merged )

The Best was back when you got Comped they would take everything off but Internet .... it use to drive me Crazy
They would always say because it's a 3rd party and there's nothing they could do.
When you get RFB, this should be included.

Then a few years ago they changed it , the Internet was included in the Resort fee. That was great because they could now include it with your comp
When MGM raised their Resort Fee, they also threw in the GYM.

at
Caesars properties they won't comp you the resort fees ( unless they changed that )
it's been awhile since I was at one of their
properties, but I remember getting full comp there except the resort fees

What they were at first trying to do is Stop people from parking at say the Mirage, and going to other Casinos or places
So what they Should do is for Hotel Guest Not Charge for Parking.

If you are gambling at that Casino, hand in your Players card and parking stub, and as long as you were playing at that Casino, parking is Free

Resort fees are scams. The hotels only use them so they can show a lower price on room search engines like Hotels.com, Orbitz, Travelocity. The resort fees aren't optional so why not just add them to hotel room listed price.

Easy to avoid all of this

MGM become a Pearl member or better, parking is free at any of their properties.

Caesars become a Diamond Member and you have free parking, free valet and no resort fees ever. Also you'll get your room comped anywhere they have a property. Not just basic rooms but suites.

You can easily become a member of both status, you just need to know how to work the system. It's not hard at all.
