It is being reported that former Tennessee coach Butch Jones will join Alabama as
an offense analyst. Jones is owed $8.2 million by Tennessee so he can take a $35,000
job to help rehabilitate his career without any financial pain.

It is also being reported that Saban wanted to hire former Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze
as an on field coach but SEC Commissioner Jeff Sankey strongly opposed.

Former Florida coach Jim McElwain will receive $300,000 for coaching Michigan receivers.
Ole Mac ain't feeling any money pain either as Florida paid him a negotiated one time
payment of $7.5 million. He was owed over $12 million by the Gators.

These coaching salaries are getting a little ridiculous.....................

his former underling at CMU, Enos, was influential in making this happen. it's a win/win...he comes cheaper and without the baggage of Huge Sleaze, can help a fairly young group of offensive coaches with their game plans, and can keep his buyout payments coming in. He already has good chemistry with Enos and they had some pretty damn good offenses with dual-threat QB Lefevour at CMU.

and very glad he cannot coach on the field :) (well, at least in 2nd halves)

plus we're getting the coach of the national champions of life

Heck RT, when you have a graduate QB transfer knowing he probably won't see the field sign with Alabama
just wanting to learn the coaching profession under Saban. One understands why failed coaches beg to come
to Tuscaloosa to learn and hopefully prolong their careers.

Butch Jones will be a head coach again....I have no doubts about that. If Hugh Freeze had been hired, after
maybe a few years.....he would get another chance. Saban was ready to hire Freeze before all hell broke loose
from the SEC office.

Saban is really good about giving players and coaches a second chance to prove themselves. Most circumstances
have proven to be successful.

I'm impressed as to how "slim & trim" Butch looks compared to "Belly"; I always thought he (Jones) looked portly while on the sideline at Tennessee.

Mack, Jones is about to get an education in organization, recruiting and coaching that will change
his career. I have zero doubt he will be a head coach again...might not be of Tennessee's statue
but a good job none the less.

Hell, when one considers a major program in Arizona would hire an ESPN clown...there's hope for ALL.

Mack, thinking back...can you name me a head coach with Lillie White Gloves during his career?
Ain't going to happen with the BEAR and he was the greatest example in the ole days. What about
Barry at Oklahoma? Woody at Ohio State? Others...............

Hugh Freeze did some dumb stuff...especially phone calls to escort services. How many head FB
coaches have been in top-less bars? Let their players visit tit bars. All in when the majority
of their contributors visit a tit or two.

We had a president who got BJ's in the Oval Office and that was OK with most of his liberal base.

Hugh Freeze deserves a second chance.....and I believe down the road he will get that chance.
He's a damn good offensive mind worthy of consideration to lead a team.

My take....welcome yours......

Jones is a lot like McElwain in that neither of them should be coaching at a P5 school. Hell, Jones has a much better track record than Butters/McElwain.

I'm curious what Saban's motive is for bringing Jones in. Freeze is a legitimate coach, but Jones is questionable....especially w/ some of the silly shit he said/did at Tennessee ("Champions of Life", etc). Saban always has a good staff full of analysts though.

The new ILB coach Saban brought in is a rising star. He'll be a head coach by the 2020 season, imo.

Coach, good in site from you on Pete Golding...Saban thought enough of him not only as a LB coach but
named him co-defensive coordinator.

Saban transformed his staff with guys with new energy and enthusiasm and a much younger coaching staff.
Only one assistant is over fifty. Give Saban credit...he knows the challenge with young recruiters who learned
under him at Georgia, Tennessee and Texas A&M.

He's put together a group of grinders and workers in player evaluation and RECRUITING. That's always number
one with him. The on field coaching will continue...but getting great players in is a priority with Saban.

Heck Clover, one of the most successful college football coaches of all time who won (5) National Championships while at Ohio State was Woody Hayes who was dismissed (fired) after he punched a Clemson Player who ended-up on the Ohio State sideline at the end of a play during the 1978 Gator Bowl game in Jacksonville, Florida; It was a "swing of frustration"...........I was at the game. Most fans didn't even see that "right hook" delivered by Hayes but the TV cameras [did] and that ended a 28 year career at Ohio State for Ol Woody.....A sad ending indeed for one of the great coaches of all-time who ended up with "dirty hands"....Joe Paterno was another.

I remember that game well Mack. I wasn't there like you but was watching it on TV. Actually missed it
when Woody pulled a Mike Tyson on that player but one of my friends started yelling that the Ohio State
coach hit the Clemson player. It wasn't until the replays that we saw the incident and believed it.

I really miss the old coaching characters like Bear, Woody, Barry, and many of the other great influences
on college football.
