Former Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins is likely to sign with the Minnesota Vikings, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Other teams competing for Cousins don't think they have a realistic chance at getting the quarterback, and it will come down to the contract with the Vikings, per sources. That deal is expected to be a three-year, $84 million deal that will be "landmark" and make Cousins the highest-paid quarterback in the league, according to sources.
"No final decisions have been made," Cousins' agent Mike McCartney said Tuesday. "The plan is to visit Minnesota first. That's all we can say right now."
Cousins, 29, has been one of the NFL's most productive quarterbacks since becoming the Redskins' full-time starter three years ago. During that time, he ranks fourth in passing yards, sixth in passer rating, seventh in total QBR and eighth in touchdown passes.
Last season, Cousins topped the 4,000-yard mark for the third straight season. He finished with 4,093 yards, 27 touchdowns and 13 interceptions -- and a total QBR of 52.3, his lowest as the full-time starter.
The 2012 fourth-round pick went from being the backup to Robert Griffin III to a productive starter during his time in Washington. He started nine games in his first three seasons. In 2015, his first year as the starter, he helped lead the Redskins to the NFC East title by throwing 23 touchdowns to only three interceptions over the final 10 games -- starting with the "You like that?!" comeback win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He finished that season with 29 touchdowns, 11 interceptions and a franchise-record 4,166 yards.
After that season, the Redskins and Cousins couldn't agree on a long-term deal, so the team placed the franchise tag on him. Cousins responded by again breaking the franchise record 4,917 passing yards to go along with 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. But the Redskins missed the playoffs by losing their regular-season finale at home to the New York Giants.
That led to yet another franchise tag, as Cousins told the Redskins he wasn't ready to commit long term and wanted to gauge the direction of the franchise. It was clear by season's end that both sides wanted to avoid another one-year tag situation. Rather than negotiate a final time with Cousins, the Redskins traded for Alex Smith on Jan. 30, agreeing to a four-year extension with the veteran.

Adam Schefter is a pretty good scoop guy.

He says Teddy Bridgewater to the Jets is a pretty strong possibility.

Stay tuned for that.

I didn't. In the 2012 draft. He was the 2nd best quarterback to come out after Luck and somehow he goes in the 4th round. Alot of these NFL scouts are clueless.

Tannehill was taken early in the 1st round that year. The same qb that couldnt beat out one of those not real qb's at Texas A and M and started all of 1 year in college.
If you only start for 1 year in college, that is a huge red flag. Like Mark Sanchez.

Why are the Jets always in a rush to get one of these not real quarterbacks.

It's like they go out of their way to get the worst quarterbacks

This is the same team that "upgraded" from bust Mark Sanchez to even worse qb in Geno Smith giving way to 40 year old known felon Michael Vick. What was RG3 not avilable to sign this week? And they will probably draft Lamar Jackson.

Source: Jets adding Teddy Bridgewater to mix at QB.

Former Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater plans to sign a one-year contract with the New York Jets when the new league year officially begins Wednesday, a league source told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
Bridgewater will get approximately half of the $10 million the Jets agreed Tuesday to pay Josh McCown on another one year deal, the source said.
Bridgewater's contract contains minimal guaranteed money, the source said, but he can earn at least $6 million if he is on the team's opening week roster, plus other incentives based on his playing time.
Even with McCown and Bridgewater on the roster, the Jets are still expected to draft a quarterback next month. The status of former second-round pick Christian Hackenberg's is reportedly in jeopardy after Wednesday's moves.
The Jets' moves came after missing out on Kirk Cousins, who plans to sign a fully guaranteed deal with the Vikings, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
McCown's return to the Jets was announced by his agent via Twitter on Tuesday.
The team also will get a boost in the backfield, as former Cleveland Brownsrunning back Isaiah Crowell intends to sign a three-year contract with the Jets, a source told Schefter.
Crowell will join Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire in the Jets' backfield. Coach Todd Bowles usually prefers a committee approach, but the Jets believe Crowell, who has rushed for 1,805 yards over the past two seasons, has the ability to be the No. 1 back.
McCown, 38, signed a one-year, $10 million contract, a source said. He also has been told he will go into training camp as the starting quarterback, a source confirmed.
"I'm excited to be back with this organization and continuing building on the chemistry in this locker room," McCown said in a text to ESPN.
The Jets had always expressed an interest in re-signing McCown as their fallback option -- and they may not be finished. They're also in talks with free agent Teddy Bridgewater, a source said. Nothing that happens in free agency will preclude them from considering a quarterback with the sixth pick in the draft, a source said.
The Jets shifted their attention to McCown once it became apparent that Cousins is planning to sign with the Minnesota Vikings, as Schefter reported.
The Jets, who began free agency with a league-high $90 million in cap room, targeted Crowell because they hope to rebuild with players coming off their rookie contracts.
McCown, who signed a one-year, $6 million contract with the Jets in 2017, easily won the starting job in the preseason and delivered the best statistical year of his long career.
He set career marks for completions (267), yards (2,926) and touchdown passes (18). He also tied for the team lead with five rushing touchdowns. He posted a passer rating higher than 100 in eight games, the second most by a Jets quarterback in a single season.
McCown's season ended prematurely after he suffered a fractured left (non-throwing) hand, which required surgery, in a Week 14 loss to the Denver Broncos. After the game, he choked up at his news conference, knowing his season probably was over. He also hinted to teammates that he might retire, but he came out publicly in January to say he intends to play at least one more season.
Despite the abbreviated campaign, McCown was voted team MVP by his Jets teammates. They went 5-8 with him in the lineup -- and failed to win a game after his injury.
McCown, who turns 39 on July 4, is the ultimate journeyman, having played for eight different teams since entering the league in 2002. McCown, Julius Peppers and Dwight Freeney were the only players from the 2002 draft still playing in 2017.
He is 23-50 as a starter over his career, with 17,168 passing yards, 97 touchdown passes and 78 interceptions.
Crowell, 25, gained 3,118 yards in four seasons with the Browns, but he didn't become the team's primary back until the past two seasons. He rushed for 853 yards with an average of 4.1 yards per carry last season. He posted slightly better numbers in 2016, rushing for 952 yards while averaging 4.8 yards per attempt.
Crowell is one of only six NFL backs with at least 150 carries in each of the past two seasons to average 4.0 yards or more per carry, joining Devonta Freeman, Jordan Howard, Ezekiel Elliott, Mark Ingram and Le'Veon Bell.
His overall production was limited by the number of carries he received as he shared time with Duke Johnson in the Browns' backfield. Crowell, who did not have a game with 20 rushing attempts over the past two seasons, ranked 12th in the NFL in yards per carry (4.47) during that span, but ranked 17th in overall carries (404).
He and coach Hue Jackson got into a public spat after he had only five rushing attempts in a loss to the Baltimore Ravens last season, including just one carry after he ripped off a 59-yard run in the second quarter. At that point, it seemed clear that Crowell would test the free-agent market and find a new team in 2018.

Just amazing. Teddy Bridgewater is not even good for a black qb.

So you know he really sucks.

Might as well sign Warren Moon. Has a better chance of working out.

Source: Malcolm Butler bounces back from SB snub, intends to join Titans on 5-year, $61M deal.

Cornerback Malcolm Butler intends to sign with the Tennessee Titans on a five-year, $61 million deal that includes a guarantee of $30 million, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Butler surprisingly didn't play a defensive snap in the New England Patriots' 41-33 Super Bowl LII loss to the Philadelphia Eagles due to what coach Bill Belichick described as a coaching decision.
The hero of Super Bowl XLIX with a game-saving interception, Butler spent in New England four memorable years that included notable highs and lows.
An overlooked prospect in 2014 out of Division II West Alabama, he was invited to New England for a tryout and earned a contract on the offseason 90-man roster almost a month after the draft. He rose to unexpected fame with his Super Bowl interception, and the team showed its faith in him the following season, in 2015, by elevating him to the No. 1 spot on the depth chart to replace departed free agent Darrelle Revis.
Despite Butler's sudden stardom, Belichick said at one point in 2015 that Butler "as much as any player that I've been around, has really not changed very much from Year 1 to Year 2."
Butler started every game in 2015 and 2016, earning a Pro Bowl berth in 2015, though his future with the team was uncertain after the 2016 season, when he was a restricted free agent. The New Orleans Saints hosted Butler on a visit but never signed him to an offer sheet.
Butler returned to the Patriots in 2017 and had a self-described up-and-down season that culminated with Belichick's shocking decision not to play him on defense in Super Bowl LII. After the game, in an emotional moment, Butler said the Patriots gave up on him.
Butler's durability was impressive in his time with the Patriots, as he played 98.8 percent of the defensive snaps in 2015, followed by 96.7 and 97.8 the next two seasons. Teammates nicknamed him "Strap" because of his ability to closely cover receivers and also "Scrap" for his scrappy style of play.
The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Butler turned 28 on March 2. He'll play for former Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel and former Pats personnel man Jon Robinson, who are now the Titans' head coach and general manager, respectively.
This marks the second straight year that a Patriots cornerback will leave in free agency to join the Titans. Logan Ryan agreed to a contract with the Titans last offseason.

huh?

Eddie Jackson 27 Yd Interception Return (Mitchell Trubisky Pass to Adam Shaheen for Two-Point Conversion)

Guy is so over-rated it is unbelievable. He has turned Minnesota into a 5-4 team. Playoffs? Not likely.

He is the "Cutler re-make". They'll just keep talking and talking and talking about him.... and in the end it's the same shit.

What did he do? Take an 11-5 team and make it to a 5-8-1 team?

Something like that. You think you're going to bring Joe Montana into the joint and he's going to make your team 5-8-1?

I said this in many threads. Guy is overrated. He needs to be in a Trent Dilfer situation. The team and defense wins the game, and he doesn't screw it up. That's the perfect situation for Cousins.
