How is it certain programs seem to have the same DNA over a span of decades?

Look at VA basketball, they're number one in the land with Ralph Sampson at center and they go to Maui and lose to division II host Charminade, the biggest win for the host in their tournament history.

Now the Cavs own the distinction of becoming the first one seed to lose to a 16 seed.

Over the span of decades, they've had good teams, some highly seeded teams, and they just never advance. It's like a dark cloud hanging over their heads

So true. Purdue, Missouri, and Virginia all seem very similar to me and you're talking outcomes for 3 programs that span over a few decades. Now Purdue loses Haas and Missouri obviously had their issues with Michael Porter Jr. and then losing their 2nd leading scorer to a DUI the day before selection Sunday. 3 programs that all seem snakebitten when it comes to March Madness.
