The New York Jets shook up the top of the NFL draft on Saturday morning, completing a blockbuster trade with the Indianapolis Colts that will put them in better position to select a potential franchise quarterback.

The Jets moved up three spots to No. 3, while sending the No. 6 overall pick, two second-round choices this year (Nos. 37 and 49) and their second-rounder in 2019 to the Colts.

The NFL draft takes place April 26-28 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

After failing to land free-agent quarterback Kirk Cousins, the Jets turned to Plan B. They re-signed Josh McCown and signed Teddy Bridgewater, then immediately focused on trying to trade up.

In recent days, general manager Mike Maccagnan has attended the pro days of Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield and UCLA's Josh Rosen. He's also planning to attend the pro days of Wyoming's Josh Allen and Southern California's Sam Darnold.

According to ESPN Stats & Information, it is the fourth time that the Jets have traded up to acquire a top-10 draft pick. The last time was in 2009, when the Jets acquired the No. 5 pick and drafted quarterback Mark Sanchez -- who was also the last offensive player selected in the first round by New York.

The trade makes sense for the Colts because it will allow them to add depth to their talent-thin roster.

It is the third consecutive year that one of the top three overall picks in the NFL draft has been traded.

Moving up to get Mayfield my guess.

I don't like teams who trade up. Usually is a bad recipe. But I do like Mayfield some

They definitely did not move up for Mayfield. Starting to sound like the Giants may actually be dumb enough to draft Barkley 2nd.

I don't know what these dumbass organizations will do. But Mayfields stock is rising as we approach. Because let me tell you why...he is the one qb with the least amount of question marks. His question marks are all off the field. On the field he is as good as all of these guys.

Josh allen- strongest arm and most NFL ready body. But accuracy issues.

Sam Darnold- Small hands is the biggest concern and he smells of a bust, but clearly has the heart for it. If he fits in the right spot he could be good. If someone just takes him expecting him to change their franchise, no.

Josh rosen- best overall nfl ready qb probably, but my knock is his body frame. Dude reminds me of aaron rodgers frame and we've seen how many injuries he has had. Two broken collar bones.

Then you have Mayfield.....what are his major knocks? Height I would say. But there are small qb's who have a lot of success. So what really are his knocks?

So to me anything is in play and that's how I view the qb's to make sure they get who they want. He's moving up the boards. Not sure he would've been there at 6. I know he was the 4th projected qb off the board not too long ago but I don't know why

Moving up is the purpose for a QB.

I would be surprised if its Mayfield.

Who knows though.
