Pace of Play: Which team benefits from a slow pace tonight? Which team benefits from a fast pace?
I think the general consensus here is that if the pace is slow, then Loyola wins, and if the pace is fast, Nevada wins. But it could very well be the opposite. The first two games PROVED that Nevada can be beat in fast-paced games. If the pace is fast, does Nevada come out flat? Do they come out playing well but then after 30 minutes it all falls apart due to fatigue?
Loyola should strongly consider whether they should play their slow, methodical game. Or a fast-paced game that seems to be a recipe for beating Nevada. Just because Nevada escaped twice, doesn't mean they'll escape a third time. So I actually believe a slower pace benefits Nevada tonight. And if the game turns into a fast-paced game, I guess we'll just have to sit back and see if Nevada can ride this out to the Elite 8.
Futures odds comparisons from 5dimes:
To win the region:
Nevada +360
Loyola +445
Advance to Final:
Nevada +1150
Loyola +1650
To win the Championship:
Nevada +6600
Loyola +9500
These odds are mostly indicative of whether they can beat stronger teams consecutively, for example: Kentucky, then Gonzaga, then Nova/Duke. Still, this tournament is played one game at a time, and anything can happen.
I think Nevada is the pick tonight.
