Souza currently -125.

Gastelum is almost #1 in betting odds of all fighters. He is a money making machine.

Ever since he ate ten boxes of donuts and missed his Cowboy fight (that would've been fun to watch), he has done the following:

Kennedy TKO
Vitor TKO (but erased due to marijuana)
Weidman SUB LOSS
Bisping KO

This is an interesting fight. One could argue that Gastelum is for real in this division and also that he is not. There is literally an asterisk next each fight.

1. Kennedy: Kennedy didn't get his NY fight and came in over-confident and under-prepared vs. Gastelum. A full camp might of yielded a tighter result rather than a 3rd round thrashing.

2. Vitor: No more juice for Vitor and he has a tough time knocking out his next door neighbor. Gastelum came in as a massive favorite and skull-smashed Vitor. Easy win.

3. Wideman: Gastelum got in one of his lightning bolts and almost finished Weidman, but eventually the massive size difference was just too much to handle.

4. Bisping: Bisping came in off a concussion and about 13 days notice to take on Gastelum. Bisping was not really there and Gastelum smashed Bisping with two head shots.

So the question is.... who is Gastelum, really? Did he beat washed up trash in Kennedy, Vitor and Bisping at inopportune times? Was the Weidman match the only true, top-caliber level opponent in the division that he has faced? A scenario where he was simply outclassed by divisional size? Because, honestly, if Gastelum can't pop Souza's big skull a few good times, then this fight should be a replay of the Weidman match, no? Or is this incorrect thinking?

Or you could look at it like the Kennedy hug-fest fight... where Souza might try to wrestle and ground Gastelum.

This is almost like another do-or-die fight for Gastelum. If he loses, then he falls to 4-4 and 1 NC for his last 9 fights. And he almost assuredly secure himself as a bottom-half level fighter of ranked 6 or worse in the division. He clearly lacks the discipline and commitment to not eat the house down, and can (amazingly) even have trouble making weight at 185 due to a lack of professionalism and laziness.

He will never make 170 again.... and so this is yet another intriguing fight.

The flip-side is that if he wins, then he propels himself into a matchup with a 2nd or 3rd ranked guy. And if he were to get lucky and all top fighters are injured, then he could be ushered into a title fight.

Something tells me that tragedy awaits him. Overstuffing himself for the McGregor card in New York. Getting bailed out and placed into the Kennedy fight. Then smashing Vitor, but getting busted for pot. Then losing to an oversized opponent in Weidman, then irresponsibly barely making 185 for the Bisping fight...

I can almost guarantee that he come in very blubbery for this fight in Brazil. But with those lightning fists he has a shot.

I just get this strange feeling that Gastelum is going to land some big shots and win.

Then again, if you look at his fights...

Kennedy TKO
Vitor TKO (but erased due to marijuana)
Weidman SUB LOSS
Bisping KO

Maybe only Weidman is in the Top 5. All are lower tier. Bisping was a joke. And if Gastelum vs. Top 5 would be the same outcome as Weidman.... could be a mismatch.

Think this match will go a long ways to Gastelum's legitimacy in this division. Guy keeps on getting big wins, but he is in a huge must win situation unless he can establish among the elite.

Could be champ at 170, no? ... but too many donuts.

I'm betting on Gastelum. Just got a feeling. If this wasn't in Brazil, maybe Gastelum is a -150 fave or better?

Get er done!

Gastelum must be fuckign attacking those donuts hard!

I still got Gastelum winning as long as they don't go humping on the ground.

The under over is o1½-185, this offsets everything I think about this fight.. the distance fight favors Souza dos Santos, is this the after shock affect of Kelvin Gastelum KO win. At 38 you would think this might be his retirement fight and what better place, you know the Local judges want Souza to win.
