The Combine is a huge part of the NFL Draft process for prospects, and in addition to position drills and basic athletic testing, prospects are asked to take the Wonderlic test. The scores of these tests are supposed to remain private, but every year some of them get leaked.

This year, most of the quarterback scores have been made public by former NFL scout John Middlekauff. He listed off the scores on a recent Fox Sports Radio podcast appearance on "The Herd With Colin Cowherd."

Here's what he claims are the scores:

Wonderlic scores for 2018 QBs

 • Josh Allen: 37
 • Josh Rosen: 29
 • Sam Darnold: 28
 • Baker Mayfield: 25
 • Lamar Jackson: 13
This then brings us to the question...

Are Wonderlic scores important for NFL players?

The short answer: it depends on who you ask, and what position.

In a column for Sports Illustrated, Edward Krupat, PhD, wrote, that the Wonderlic is "an outdated way of thinking about intelligence when it comes to predicting performance on the football field."

An artcile on Medium did some research on quarterback scores and discovered, "There seems to be a sort of smartness threshold, where the best NFL quarterbacks need to be at least this smart to see success. But once a QB passes that threshold (around a score of 25), their additional smartness has little to no effect on success on the field."

Even Middlekauff, who released the 2018 scores, says, "everything matters when it comes to quarterbacks." This is part of why he released some of the scores.

What is the Wonderlic test?

Let's take Wikipedia's definition:

The Wonderlic Personnel Test is a popular group intelligence test used to assess the aptitude of prospective employees for learning and problem-solving in a range of occupations. The Wonderlic is available in 12 different languages and is often used in college, entry level jobs, and team-making efforts. It consists of 50 multiple choice questions to be answered in 12 minutes.

I scored a 14!!! Hahahaha..

At the end it said..
"Congratulations, you scored a 14.. the same score as Jadevion Clowny..

I will say, with This test.. on my phone.. i had to scroll down to get next question, so im sure if it was on a comp i would of gotten 2 more qs.

Also, to be honest, the STYLIZATUON, of how Varying the questions were... that took me back on several occasions.. lol you will see..

I think if i retook this test again this afternoon easily i could raise my score 3-5 points..

(lol and yes i know thats still COMPLETELY uninpressive) hahaha like raising my D... to a D+

I have. Its part of the Mensa test. Me a bunch of friends took the test as a bet, who would score highest. No money, Case of beer each to the winner (no limit) Like everyone here, we all thought we were way smarter than everyone else. It was one of my favorite, non-sports related bets we have had.

They give you 2 scores, your Mensa Wonderlic raw score and your Mensa administrative test raw score.

The wonderlic test is kind of like success in life.

The most successful people are smart but not genius. You get to genius level and you lose basic functionality characteristics required for life success. AKA Ryan Fitzpatrick (48), Blaine Gabbert (48), Drew Henson (42). Sweet spot for this test is sharp but not freakishly weird smart. Aaron Rodgers (35) Brady (33) Foles (29) Brees (28) Big Ben (25)
