They SHOULD take Barkley, but the word in NY is that they will take Darnold ( unless the Browns take him ) then who knows ( but it will be a QB )

Cleveland should take Barkley and Chubb, those are the two difference makers in the draft.

Although it seems likely Barkley would be a terrible pick. Unless they absolutely dislike Rosen they should go him or Chubb.

Why didn't they take Darnold? Even if he flops it's still a blunder. Barkley is really good and all but doesn't justify the pick.

Throw out hindsight. You think taking the rb was the right choice?

Why not? If he's good then he is good. You don't always have to take a QB even if you need one, what if you don't think 1 is good? No point in trying to force 40-50 starts with someone you aren't enamored with.

Barkley is 1 of the best RB's in the league already. If taking a RB in the top 5 is a bad decision then taking almost any position besides QB in the top 5 is a bad decision besides CB/edge rusher/LT really. The other positions don't have much less fungibility than RB.

Yes....every SB contender requires an above average rushing game.

Diehard Giants fan The SheBar sez they should cut bait with Eli as Indy did with Peyton....swallow the one season $21mil and sign Nick Foles for about half the price

Well if you absolutely don't like the qb then I would look to the pass rusher. There has to be some positional value given to your draft slot. Gurley is arguably the best rb in the league. What do you think he would fetch in a trade? 2nd rounder? That's what Pittsburgh was asking for Bell. Would you rather have Ramsey or Bosa or Zeke?

To add the qb is almost always going to be the correct choice if you think there is any chance he will turn out. Just too much positional value to pass up. The chance of having a top 10 qb on a rookie scale. Running backs offer very little in terms of value at the top of the draft. Would be just fine with a Kamara or another guy drafted after the first round.

Bell was at the end of his deal and would've had to get a new, lucrative extension though, that isn't apples to apples. Gurley has been in the NFL for 4 years now. You get 3-5 years of cost control on Barkley. It's just not the correct comparison.

Pass rushers or top 10-15 CB's don't grow on trees. What if there isn't a Bosa in the draft? A Ramsey? ...So you're saying Barkley over Denzel Ward or Bradley Chubb is a fish move? I guess time will tell? ...Doesn't seem awful to me.

The point is I'd rather take a RB that I think is close to a sure thing and is perfect for the direction the game is going rather than gamble on a QB that I'm not enamored with.

You can't really just blindly use hard and fast rules like "Don't take XYZ here" because the player pool is different in every draft.
