Why don’t baseball teams remove the catcher when nobody is on base and let him play the field ?

Think about it .

Just pitch without the catcher .

Let the infield shift and put the catcher at 2nd base or the outfield .

When it’s 2 strikes the catcher has to go back behind the plate because of the throw to first rule .

But a team could shift the catcher to the field for the first 2 strikes that way you can shift and cover the void in the infield at the same time

Better yet. Bring the 3 OFs in, and let them stand about 3' in front of the batters box. Batter will never see the ball.

Dropping a bunt in front of the plate is one of the easiest things to do as a hitter. Without a catcher to field the ball that is a hit every time.

If it's not against the rules, then it's a good question. Baseball would hate it as it would really slow down the game. But the point about bunting isn't exactly accurate. its hard to deaden a bunt right in front of home plate. a good fielding pitcher would be able to get a lot of them. i'm assuming it is against the rules to throw balls at the umpire though lol
