I guess I am the anti-shub, as I have always gravitated towards meat and fats. Im not a huge fruit fan (3-4 i eat easily, but far from a staple of my diet). I normally do well when going cold turkey and have strict rules of what I am allowed to have. The keto diet focusing on cutting out processed foods and carbs while allowing you to eat plenty of natural proteins and green veggies seems doable to me. I wouldn't mind dropping 40-50 lbs in three months on the diet ideally and switching a more moderate diet following those three months.

found some useful information on the site below and will start on Thursday after grocery shopping. I will use this thread to track my diet, weight loss, and workout habits.

im 6'3 and played sports growing up, so I have a bigger frame, I dropped a bunch of weight awhile back, but slowly crept back up over the last 2 years to a point where I would like to get back down again or even lower. Im not sure I could get below 240 honestly without looking weird.

Keto diet works great - especially the first few months - but you need to pay attention to total cals - you can't eat 3 porterhouses a day and expect yo lose weight

gl with it kidman. Be well read on it. Plan on using ketostix?

very restrictive diet. I could never do this long term. Great for pressing the reset button, changing things up, blasting through a weight-plateau level

first few days will be rough, may not feel well. Cravings vanish.

I only exercise like a mad man because I love to eat and drink. This is one diet I could probably do but I just try to eat well overall, impossible for me to stick to a diet 100%. When I eat more, I try to out-cardio my intake.

What's ketostix?

good luck with it man. looks like another low carb diet but if it gets you headed in the right direction good for you. hopefully there are some recipes that work for you that are healthy and good. that was the hardest part of dieting for me in the past. making the healthy foods taste good wasnt always easy.

its this little stick you pee on and it measures how your doing on the diet, the darker the color the better. Means your body is in ketosis

Keto is regurgitated Atkins.
The same crap that caused half our country to become obese in the 70’s and 80’s.
A nutty cult,but good luck...

No no no . Not even close bro .

the obesity epidemic (and with it the explosion of chronic disease ) is multifactorial. At its core is what we eat .

A westernized diet , one rich in empty calories is the most pressing factor . A keto and a low carb diet DO NOT advocate highly processed food choices . A loaded burger , fries with gravy and a coke are not staples in either diet

said another way - - a high glycemic diet rich in calorie dense unhealthy fats is a recipe for chronic disease/obesity

FYI your govt has acknowledged the evidence that increasing % of healthy fats is Good thing for weight maintenance and biomakers .(they had to eat crow. A lot of it -as they had fat, a macronutrient, misplaced in their 'food pyramid ' . And for the tin foil folks , yeah , they REALLY fucked and inadvertently help fuel obesity

Eating fat doesn't make you fat

of course BMi is silly , BUT it gives doctors an immediate/CHEAP screening tool , which is useful.

Care to explain how a low carb diet and the more extreme kept diet led to increased observed obesity rates 'or as you say - has led us to where we r today '?

Cmon, you Made the statement. Make an effort to suppport it

weight loss and winning at gambling have been and always will be a long term approach to be successful. you have to be smart with what you do and calculated. when you go outside of the regiment you typically dont fair well. to be successful long term you will have good and bad weeks but as long as you stay disciplined you will be okay. trying to become rich over the weekend or lose weight in two weeks is just for suckers. make a full change and the results come in time.

all depends on what your goal is. want to lose weight quick, sure atkins and low carb works. want to improve overall health permanently then i would say atkins and keto need some changes but thats just my opinion. i have not tried atkins or keto but every person i know that has done either wants to see immediate results so i think they are playing to the lazy crowd looking for a quick fix. in essence they are touts selling to people who dont know any better.
