Why the Phillies on Tuesday at -128...The fighting Phils open Tuesday's two game series against the Orioles after an off-day, coming off of winning five out of their last seven games. In that seven game stretch, the Phils averaged 5.9 RPG with a .280 BA/.363 OBP. Nick Pivetta will take the ball for Philly who is coming off of a quality start against the Giants at home where he picked up the W allowing 0 runs through 5 IP on 4 hits, 7 Ks and 0 BBs. In that start, Pivetta posted a LD% of 18% (SA 20%) as well as a soft contact% of 25% (SA 17%). Another positive from that start from Pivetta was that he saw his aSLv increase from an average of 81 MPH to 83.7 MPH in his most recent start. With a 16.7% SL usage rate in that start (SA 13%), we will back the uptick in his SLv and back Pivetta in this road start against an O's lineup that he is not exposed to. The Orioles come into this game after an off-day after winning five of their last seven against the Royals and Rays at home. Andrew Cashner toes the slab for Baltimore who has posted a 7.36 era over his last 14 IP where he allowed 19 hits on 12 Ks, 8 BBs and 4 HRs against below-average teams in the Tigers, A's and Royals. Looking into Cashner's most recent start against the Royals, he posted a LD% of 30% (SA 19%) and saw his aFBv drop. Cashner has not displayed success at home where he has posted a 5.46 era over 28 IP where he allowed 31 hits on 25 Ks, 12 BBs and 6 HRs. This Phillies lineup has a combined 48 ABs against Cashner to match a .292 BA/.407 OBP and 2 HRs. Going to back this Phillies pen, who brings a 3.28 era compared to the Orioles bullpen era of 4.57.
