Rockies minus $1.21 hosting Giants

Colorado is a disappointing 9-12 at home this season. Traditionally, though, the Rockies are tough at Coors Field. I'm expecting the Rockies to start playing better at home. They've been showing signs of that putting up a combined 25 hits during their last two games while scoring 18 runs in winning two of three from the Reds at Coors.

Now the Rockies catch the Giants, who are 1-4 during their current road trip and coming off a Sunday night loss to the Cubs. San Francisco lost nine of 10 games to the Rockies at Coors last year. This is the Giants' first visit to Colorado this year.

It's a bad spot for the Giants.

Not only did they have to play in the ESPN Sunday Night Game, but they are starting rookie Andrew Suarez. The Giants are 1-5 in his six starts this season. Suarez's ERA is 5.68. He's been particularly bad in his last three starts with a 9.00 ERA. The Giants were forced to use him because of injuries to Madison Bumgarner and Johnny Cueto.

The Giants also have been missing Buster Posey, Joe Panik, Hunter Pence and Allen Hanson, who was playing his best ball of his career until going down with a hamstring injury.

Chad Bettis has plenty of experience pitching at Coors Field unlike Suarez, who is likely going to be overmatched. The Rockies are 14-4 in Bettis' past 18 home starts.

the minnesota twins hope that a change of scenery will get their bats going when they carry a four-game losing streak into kansas city on monday for the first of three against the royals. the twins have scored six total runs during the slide, including sunday's 3-1 loss at seattle, which limited minnesota to four hits.

slumping second baseman brian dozier had shown signs of life with a modest five-game hitting streak, but he was 0-for-4 in the defeat as the twins were 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. the royals have won four of their last six after a 5-3 victory in texas on sunday, which gave them a split of a four-game series. salvador perez slugged one of two homers for kansas city, giving him eight over his last 23 games. he and his teammates will take aim at twins right-hander lance lynn, who is coming off his best start of the season, while jakob junis goes for the royals.

junis worked at least six innings in five of his first seven starts, but he's failed to get that far in each of his last three outings. he gave up two runs and five hits with seven strikeouts in five frames in a no-decision at st. louis on wednesday. the 25-year-old, who has surrendered nine home runs in 29 2/3 innings at home this year, has a 3.27 era in two prior matchups with the twins.
