Scenario: You have a guy batting .182 over his last 7 games but is going against a pitcher he's hit .400 against in a sizable sample of at bats.

Do you side with his recent cruddy performance or lean to his batter vs. pitcher dominance?

Historical pitcher vs batter stats. Bad streaks have to end and going against a pitcher in his head he knows does well against, puts the batter in a better position to preform.

But betting baseball, 1 batter shouldnt make or break your bet. A pitcher yes, a batter no. Your question seems more like a Daily or Fantasy question.

that's more about managing than capping, I'll take a hot player first, a favorable match-up second

When hitters are only facing a pitcher 3 times max now, I don't really consider it. Now if the lineup has had success or not, I'll notice.

I'll use this info from SB Nation -
Jose Quintana has made 26 starts as a Cub. Four of those starts have been against the Brewers, two last year, two so far this year. Q vs. Brewers as a Cub: 28 innings, 0.64 ERA, 0.679 WHIP, 29 strikeouts.

I'm playing him obviously. Some guys just have a pitcher's number and see his pitches well.
