it's camp season so Rivals puts out a new 2019 player ranking that is heavily influenced by how these kids look against one another in these premier camps. For the first time I can remember there is no QB rated as a 5-star either PRO or DUAL style.

previous #1 overall player, Crouch, dropped to #5 and CB Derek Stingley takes over the top spot moving up from 7th. No CB has ever been Rivals #1 overall in their final rankings

#2-3-4 remained the same and soon-to-be Bama commit, Clay Webb, hopped into the top 10.

UGA commit, Nolan Smith, with big jump to #11, and undecided safety, Daxton Hill gets a 5th star

Right not there are only 21 5-stars which is rare since it is usually around 31-35

the biggest droppers of the elite players were Oregon commit, Criddell with Okie commit, WR Arjei Henderson losing a star and dropping from 6th to 27th after some attitude and effort issues showed up in camps

The overall biggest mover was Ohio St WR recruit, Garrett Wilson, passing 49 other players

Alabama leads the way with 6 verbals from the Rivals 100 and Clemson surprisingly just ONE right now.

the new top 10 is:

For the first time I can remember there is no QB rated as a 5-star either PRO or DUAL style.

According to an article earlier this week, 2011 was the last year Rivals didn't have a 5 star QB. Braxton Miller and Jeff Driskel were the two highest ranked QB's that year.

Bo Nix (AU commit) is still the highest rated pro QB but he dropped from 34 to 40. Spencer Rattler (OK committ) is rated 35th and the highest rated dual threat QB.

yeah Rattler and Nix will be h2h for highest rated QB but unless they have some monster showing at the Rivals 5-star challenge I don't think there will be a 5-star qb this year.

that 2011 QB class you referenced was pretty poor. The Rivals 100 QB that year were Driskell-Kessler-Wittek-LeMay at PRO and Miller-Hundley-Brissett-Walsh-Frazier at DUAL. You might be the only person who remembers Frazier

biggest QB mover was South Carolina's kid Ryan Hilinski. Apparently he grew a lot (both height and muscle) in the past year and looked great in 7-on-7 camps. He was MVP of the Los Angeles Rivals camp bumping him from a 3-star to a 4-star and up to #3 pro-style QB. Funny that a kid from Orange, CA did not get a USCw offer until the day he jumps into the Rivals 100 despite camping AT usc for the past 4 years. that's some shitty evaluating....

"I figured, when I committed to South Carolina, I was solid on that for a month," Hilinksi said when asked if there's a point where he'll end his recruitment entirely. "I'm still solid on that, I love the coaches, love everything they're doing. I think before season, I have to make the decision whether I'm 90-percent right now or I'm 100-percent. I think before season, before our first game, I'll know that. I don't want to have to deal with that during season, having to deal with calls and visits and things like that. Probably before season."

Bama's expectation of landing top RB, Trey Sanders, took a big hit today

The Florida Gators have bumped up their offer to 2018 recruit, Umstead Sanders (yeah, that's his name), from preferred walk-on to full scholarship paving the way for his incredibly talented brother to join them in 2019 class

He is Bama's #1 target at RB which will be a VERY THIN position after this year when D Harris graduates and N Harris has just 1 year left before the NFL. Bama missed on all their top RB's in the 2018 class so RB is a position of major need in this recruiting year. Ford is off the board (their other big target) and appears Sanders will be Gainesville-bound.

Sanders leaped over Ford on the new Rivals ratings and is now the #1 RB in the nation and #8 player in the country

while the Rivals 100 was updated on Tuesday the Rivals 250 was updated yesterday

Bama QB recruit, Tagovailoa (Tua's brother), made a big leap from outside the 250 and now sits at 161. He was part of the Elite 11 QB competition

Alabama leads the nation with 10 commits in the top 250, Oklahoma just one behind with 9

In Rivals 100 Bama #1 with 6, Oregon and Oklahoma tied #2 with 4 each. Oklahoma have never landed the #1 recruiting class in the nation but have a shot at it this year

I read somewhere that Texas A&M has 1 of the top classes coming in for 2019.

Jimbo was always a strong recruiter

From what I understand Umstead Sanders is still coming in as a preferred walk-on. They may give him a scholarship down the road (UF will be about 6 scholarships under the limit by fall - but did just add a JUCO TE, 6'7 255lbs Jacob Krull). I still think his brother goes to Bama regardless of what Umstead does....and who can blame him?

Jimbo stated at the signing day press conference in Feb that A&M would have a top 5 class in 2019....and he's well on his way.

Florida sitting strong at #27 on the Rivals rankings (Miss State is 13th). What a joke. Mullen needs to get his shit together or he won't last long. I still can't believe he didn't go after Joe Burrow.

I know you guys follow this recruiting aspect of college football with a passion using a microscope and I do realize that successful recruiting usually determines the success or failure of any team in the immediate years ahead.

What turns me on me the most is when some (2) or (3) star rated recruit or some obscure walk-on evolves and ends-up with all conference (or all-American) honors leading his team to a conference championship or perhaps, now days, a play-off berth; I know it is rare but it does happen, the most recent that comes to mind is Baker Mayfield.......Only in America.

God, please see that college football stays intact.

Mack, ability, size and speed for a kid is one thing. Having 'Heart' is another.

Some of these highly ranked kids just don't have enough 'Heart' to live up to their rankings.

no doubt Americans love an underdog but the absolute best predictor for big time college football success is recruiting. For every 2 or 3 stars that shine there are a dozen 4 and 5 stars that flourish. A few years ago I posted the correlation b/w 5-stars and 1st round NFL draft picks and it was absolutely ridiculous. The % of 5-stars, of which there are approximately 33/year, that become 1st round draft picks is astonishing.

Love the Levi Wallace story, walkon making Bama and winning national title, but I'd still rather more Patrick Surtain Jr's in a recruiting class. But then again I'm a CFB recruiting nerd

talk about a BIG commitment ... Texas Tech landed a 7-foot, 355 lb offensive tackle. I've never seen a dude this tall at a power 5 school

Dang, can you imagine this kid as a tight end. Don't know if he can run or catch a cold
but he would be a nightmare for defensive backs if he could.

These kids are just getting bigger and bigger.

And faster.....That's the scary part of all this increase in size. I bet they will use him on the defensive line as well to block field goal and extra point attempts.

Yep Mack, Walker is the best running back I have ever seen. Big, strong and FAST.
Bo, was a close second in college. Big, strong and FAST and probably a better athlete
but not a better college football player.

Todays players are catching up with the freaks of yesteryear...and I mean NO disrespect
by freak. I mean GREAT players with size and speed are becoming common these days.

Dead Period began yesterday and runs for 1 month while the players do some camping and take a break from the recruiting circuit. The annual Rivals 5-star challenge is this weekend in Atlanta and usually produces a few verbal commits both before the event and during the event. Coaches cannot have f2f contacts with recruits in a dead period but can write and call.

Clemson, Michigan, and LSU made big strides in June getting a bunch of verbal commits and now sit 3rd /4th /7th. Ohio State and UGA are just outside the top 10 but will be top 5 when it's all over. Bama, Georgia, Clemson, Oklahoma, LSU are your likely top 5 for the 2019 class

right now UCLA, Syracuse, and Washington State are the 3 lowest ranked power-5 schools.

Ole Miss. Wow!

Even with all the problems of late surrounding the program, Matt Luke
is doing a great job getting players to Oxford.

yeah, Moorehead at Miss St doing great job too. He got three 4-stars committed last week including a prime Bama target, Pickering. That week jumped MSU to 14th

agree on Ole Miss. I expected them to be fighting for last in SEC recruiting with Vandy

At this point in time, all of this means nothing. Recruiting is nothing more than an educated crap shoot. USC is never in the top 10 this early in the season but always end up in the Top 5 overall. Most of these kids will not pan out. Some will never see a College Campus. Others will get there, but have their seasons cut short. Drop outs, Academics, and arrests will take out 30-40% of these kids.Clover said that heart plays a lot in the equation. i agree, but remind all of you that brains and common sense also play a lot into the equation and every year, you see less and less of this. This is because College Football is basically a semi-pro exercise now. Today's College "Student-Athlete" is nowhere near as intelligent as the "Student-Athletes" of 10 years ago.

recruiting is nothing but a crap shoot and transfer quarterbacks all suck because they couldn't start for their previous school. Are you sure you actually follow college football at all? jesus what a worthless first week you've put in around here

you are the exact reason the IGNORE feature was created

LSU has a really strange class. Their team ranking is being influenced significantly by their two 5 star commitments. Even with those two their average star ranking is 27th. Eleven of their 18 commitments rank 3 star or lower. I don't see any way they end up top 5. Probably won't end up top 10.

I agree Ole Miss and Miss State are putting together better than expected classes. But both have high team rankings due to quantity - not quality. Pickering was a huge pick-up for State and could end up the steal of this class if they are able to hold on to him, but there is not a whole lot else to like with either class. 15 of Ole Miss's 19 commitments rank 3 star. 12 of State's 16 commitments rank 3 star or lower. Both schools are in the mid twenties in average star rankings and their team rankings will probably end up in that area when all is said and done.

As for top 5 this year, bama and Ga will no doubt be two of the teams. Clemson could end up top 5 but have a lot of work to do to make that happen. FSU, Penn State, Ohio State, Oklahoma and even Texas look like better candidates at this time.
