Wisconsin lost two starting defensive lineman due to injuries, Loudermilk and Rand. Rand is likely out for the season after playing in all 14 games LY and Loudermilk played in 11. In their 3-4 defense those guys were the projected starting DE's

lucky for them they open with Western KY and New Mexico

Virginia Tech is keeping the Jackson situation close to the vest. They definitely
need him opening week in Tallahassee. Athlon ranks Jackson the second best
quarterback in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Yes I know ...I keep checking the cfb news a few times a day for that update .... My gut ... he will be suspended for 3-6 games ...

BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech got a bit of good news in what's been a tumultuous offseason: quarterback Josh Jackson's academic issue has been resolved and he remains a full member of the team, a source with knowledge of the situation said Tuesday.

Jackson, who started all 13 games for the Hokies last fall, had his future in doubt because of an unspecified academic issue that the university was looking into, news that went public a week and a half ago. The sophomore remained a full member of the team during that period, continuing his offseason workouts as usual.

The academic matter was resolved recently, the source said, with Jackson cleared to stay on Tech's roster. There's no indication he'll face any type of suspension, meaning he most likely will be the starter for the Hokies' opener at Florida State on Labor Day night

Amazing how these (key) player academic problems go away.

Ain't it something...……………………………..

COLUMBIA — A defensive back at South Carolina was suspended due to his arrest this week on assault and burglary charges after police say he broke into a women's West Columbia house and grabbed her by the neck.

Javon Charleston, a redshirt junior from Illinois, was arrested Sunday, according to a report from the Lexington Sheriff's Department. He has been released on a $50,000 bond, said his attorney, who declined further comment.

The 19-year-old victim said Charleston appeared at the foot of her bed after she did not answer his text messages while she was on a date, according to the police report. The woman who was in bed with another man told Charleston to leave but he returned. Charleston told police he broke open a door.

The woman said she tried to run but Charleston grabbed her by the neck and called her a "dirty slut," the police report says. He took her phone and then pushed her down some stairs.

Charleston recovered four fumbles last year, two from the opponent and two from USC, and led the squad with six tackles on special teams. He was expected to be a special-teams leader and perhaps earn major snaps at DB this season.

Dexter Williams, Notre Dame's starting RB for 2018, is expected to miss the start of the season due to academic suspension and ND have only one other RB that has carried the football in his career. This is the position of least depth in the program as Jones has just 232 rushing yards in his career and his backup is a true freshman.

Dexter averaged 8.8 ypc last year with 4 TD. He was 4-star in 2015 class, #4 RB and part of Rivals 150.... this was the year he was supposed to become ND's big playmaker

something to watch for sure....Previous ND players were suspended first 4 games for academics

"the returning players started the community service phase of summer school on Monday. and those “ifs” start with senior running back Dexter Williams. There have been whispers for the past month, with no official confirmation, that the player expected to be ND’s starting running back this fall might miss some games at the start of the 2018 season for disciplinary reasons. A source close to the situation said it is expected Williams would miss some games at the start of the season."

Arizona's starting Left Tackle, Layth Frieth, has been suspended for first 2 games of season. Arizona graduated 3 of 5 starters last year so will start the season with 4 of 5 new players up front. First two games are vs BYU and Houston and the latter have the nation's best defensive lineman. Frieth has played in 38 games and will be replaced by a transfer from Michigan State who played 8 games as a freshman but then quit football to play hoops at Arizona Western Junior College.

from ariz site... "Arizona’s offensive line is arguably the thinnest and most worrisome position group, so dealing with Friekh’s absence won’t be easy. In all, UA’s line depth is heavy with guards. The offensive line has a lot of work ahead of them. An almost entirely new group, with a new coach, now replacing a successful unit for the past two seasons."

Va Tech takes a major hit in an area that they were already very thin by losing CB Adonis Alexander (Flunked out) and his replacement, Jeremy Webb (Achilles).

Oregon State loses Sr. starting OLB Bright Ugwoebu, who left for "Personal Reasons". Like they can afford to lose any starter.

Nebraska loses potential starting C Mickael Decker. No reason given.

Colorado State loses starting Sr. RG Nicho Garcia. Personal problems.

Ben Miles (son of Les Miles) is leaving Nebraska after one season and transferring to
Texas A&M. Miles, a fullback did not fit in with Nebraska's new offense under Scott
Frost. Miles will have to sit out the 2018 season.

Georgia's starting QB Jake Fromn broke his non-throwing hand Monday in a boating accident.
The good news is Fromn should be ready for the start of the season. The problem for Fromn
is that Georgia has a 5-star freshman at QB in Justin Fields.

this dude needs to stay away from the water. a couple months ago he got a fishing lure caught in his leg

UGA incredibly thin at QB. Eason transferred to Washington and then presumed 3rd string QB Stetson Bennett decided to go JUCO route. Fromm already had his work cut out for him keeping Fields off the, well, field....

Arizona loses it's best offensive lineman, LT Layth Friekh, for at least two games due to eligibility issues. This may not be good for him because he was just recently granted a 5th year of eligibility by the NCAA.

Minnesota made it official. RB Shannon Brooks is out for the season with a leg injury.

Southern Miss loses backup QB Keon Howard, who left school. This now drives the number of players on the "two deep" rosters who are definitely out for the season for any reason up to 9. And today is only the 6th of July.
