All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard wants out of San Antonio, league sources told ESPN.
Leonard, according to sources, has grown frustrated with how the organization handled his quad injury and feels the franchise turned on him once he sought a second opinion.
Leonard has Los Angeles -- preferably the Lakers -- at the center of his preferences for a trade destination, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
A source with the Spurs told ESPN that Leonard hasn't asked them for a trade.
If Leonard does become available in trade talks, the Boston Celtics will be interested in probing the Spurs about a deal, league sources told Wojnarowski. Boston inquired about a trade prior to the February deadline, sources said.
Leonard is eligible to receive a five-year, $219 million contract extension from the Spurs this summer. He can opt out of his current deal after next season and become a free agent in July 2019.
There's a feeling of betrayal that, at this juncture, appears irreparable; Leonard isn't concerned about missing out on the supermax, sources said.
Leonard has communicated with Spurs coach Gregg Popovich in recent days, sources say, but the two have yet to speak in person.
Popovich has been out of town all week attending to family business, sources told ESPN's Michael C. Wright. But Popovich and Leonard have reached out to each other on numerous occasions in recent weeks.
Leonard has been training in San Diego the past month, with a source telling ESPN's Ramona Shelburne that he's making "great progress " in his return from the quad injury that forced him to miss all but nine games last season.

If the reports are true (Woj is usually accurate and probably has people close to Leonard that leaked this to him) then I think there is a good chance he gets dealt in the next 2 weeks. With 1 year left on his deal, the longer they hold him then the less they will get for him.

I know he's from LA but hopefully he considers giving the Celts a look. They have the assets to make a deal like that happen very easily.

If he is hellbent on getting to LA then I think Ingram/Kuzma/picks probably gets it done.

Still would make it like 10% he re-signs with SA though, 219 million reasons to do so (or an opportunity cost of like 40 mill, depending how you wanna look at it)

then Lebron signs with LA and George signs for $15 an hour - SA aint doing a thing until Lebron makes a decision

Yeah, there is a lot to hash out in the next 1-3 weeks. If LeBron wasn't going to go to the Lakers then I think LA might just rather not give up much for Kawhi and gamble they can get him as a 2019 FA.

But not sure what he is thinking, he might be amenable to a trade with Philly or Boston. Or even New York, who knows. But it's definitely tough to give up a lot for him without a commitment he will re-sign.

Cliffs: He was hurt with a quad injury and tried to play but couldn't. Then he started seeking 2nd opinions from outside of the team doctors, then players on the team and Pop started making passive aggressive comments insinuating that he could try to play and/or he just didn't want to. This likely pissed him off given all that he has done for that organization. He didn't show up for playoff games and sit on the bench, distanced himself from the team by rehabbing in New York and probably some other behind the scenes stuff thus leading to the potential divorce.

Separately from that, others think that his uncle wants to steer him towards a big market for more endorsement $ but I never really bought that argument too much. He has no personality at all, it's hard to see him ever cashing in huge from endorsements even in a bigger market. If that's his plan, I don't think it is a very good one given his lack of Q score.

I think that about covers it.

Thanks for the explanation. Kinda the way I understood it too. Just seems like a situation like this might put some question marks over his head. I know his talent but not sure I'd want to bring in a guy who can't get along and commit a small fortune to him.

I think he was just legitimately hurt and couldn't play. It's easy for people to say guys should play hurt, but if you can't play then you can't play. Same thing with Derrick Rose and the Bulls.

If he is healthy, he's 1 of the top 4-5 players in the league and I'd be somewhat surprised if chemistry/attitude problems followed him to his next destination. He has no other track record to suggest that.

Was told by an owner this week that RC had a verbal deal in place, not sure what to make of this? Maybe sit down with Pops went South? Agent trying to extract more jack?

Lebron takes another franchise from the grave to the promise land will only strengthen his case as the goat. Chris Paul redemption story. Kawhi gets his location and so does Lebron. that’s my dark horse. Jerry West running shit there now. Need to fire Doc rivers though. Think Lebron believes in Lou Williams more than Lonzo Ball.

i think Paul George and Lebron not going to play together. Paul George may resign in okc

Maybe they wanted to see him back in camp healthy and playing before giving him 5 years/219 million. Or maybe when he talked to Pop, he thought it would be more of a mutual "Aww shucks we both screwed up" type of thing and Pop wasn't willing to concede much.

Guess it'll all come out eventually.

The only person I'd like to see the C's give up would be Kyrie, he's starting to annoy me by acting indifferent and not committing

I love Tatum and Brown, who are 20 and 21 respectively

Kyrie would make way more $ by waiting a year to sign his extension. And he's saying he just wants to play out the year because it is possible the Celts aren't going to commit to him.

I.e trading him for Kawhi Leonard. He's obviously aware that given their playoff run/his durability issues it isn't 100% that they want to commit 5 years/175 million or a similarly lucrative deal to him.
