It is a known fact that Sports Betting in America has reached a "fever pitch" years ago, $15 Billion was bet on Super Bowl 51 and March Madness alone this past season (97% illegally).and $90 Billion illegal bets will be placed on college and NFL games this coming season.

What would be interesting to find out is which State has the highest "per-capita" amount of bettors and who has the "highest of the high-rollers". It would be easy to suggest that Nevada has the most but the fact is that 85% of bets made in the State are placed by visitors from other States and countries. Nevada locals don't even make the top-20

My research suggest the top-10 States are as follower: (once again, keep in mind this is on a "per-capita" basis).

    1. Alabama: Researchers suggest Tide and War Eagle fans become absolutely "feverish" prior to kick-off.
    2. Ohio: Especially in the Northwestern part of the State around the Toledo area; The Columbus (Franklin County) isn't far behind.
    3. Texas: What surprises most people is the fact that the "church schools" lead the way (i.e. Baylor, SMU et al). Longhorn fans usually bet blind.
    4. Louisiana: Studies have shown that Cajun and Bayou fans work themselves into a frenzy especially just before night games.
    5. Tennessee: This is a bit of a surprise; Word has it alcohol (Shine) plays a big role with Volunteer gamblers.
    6. Arkansas: History has it the gambling culture in the State has its roots in the Hot Springs area and filtered out statewide over the years.
    7. Utah: This is another shocker; Researchers suggest the Mormons lead the way.
    8. Massachusetts: The "books" have been there so long, sports betting is driven by shear inertia.
    9. Pennsylvania: The Pittsburg & Philadelphia areas lead the way in the Quaker State.
    10. Florida: Some studies suggest sports betting in the Sunshine State is driven by air conditioning and lingering summer heat.

NOTE The high presence of Southern States and a lack Western States in the top-10. Maybe elevation plays a role.

RX poster insight and comments are welcome.

Suprised to see Utah. Guess having 2 decent programs in metro area gets people interested.

The catch is "per capita". Los Angeles County has a larger population that the States of Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana added up.

Your right POOH.....The survey analysis was on a "per-capita" basis,......Throw is a dash of cultural issues as well. The seventh ranked Utah caught me by surprise but
I've heard stories how the Mormons backed gambling and even encouraged it (not openly) as a means to acquire hard cash. I remember when Howard Hughes (one of America's first Billionaires) owned several Las Vegas Casinos and he preferred hiring Mormons to run them for him. Have you ever heard of the "Mormon Mafia" Look it up sometime.......interesting.

Mack, you are right folks down here in Alabama love their two major schools and will hammer
down when it comes to betting on them. Personally, I won't bet on Alabama or Auburn two or
three times a season...simply because there are just better options. Alabama under Saban has
been a winner hitting 55.3 percent of the time...not great...but not losing. Malzahn at Auburn
has covered 52.5 percent and that's about a break even average for Tiger fans.

My dad taught me to wager with your head, not your heart. We are both USC Alums. I have never wagered on USC Games, for or against. I do not remember dad ever doing so either. Alabama has a 28-26 ATS record in the past 4 years. Not quite break even. Auburn has a 20-26-3 record ATS in the past 4 years. Their are not many teams that have a decided W-L record ATS in the past 4 years. UConn is 13-32, for a 71% ATS loser record. East Carolina is 14-31, or 69% ATS loser. Georgia is 30-20 ATS, for a 60% Win rate. Northwestern is 29-19 for a 61% Win rate. UCLA is 18-32-1 for a 64% Loser rate. 5 schools out of 130.

Your Dad gave you good advice, "if you are going to wager, use your head, not your emotions and sentiments". We can't even imagine the number and dollar amounts wagered on the "Ol Alma Mater", an impossible stat to determine, but we do know they keep the Books happy and gay.

I hope your Father is well.

I would say that Nevada and Hawaii are the top two.

    Tennessee at No. 5.

Got to be a lot of Rocky Top fans mad and broke playing the Vols at home.

Try 28 wins and 43 losses last 71 games in Neyland Stadium. Ouch!

Exactly Clover, that is why the survey/analysis puts alcohol into their equation. We both know that combination is a "bad mix" when sports wagering is in play. Those in the know, understand how those Volunteer fans love their "Jack & Shine"........straight from the cup. In away, I envy them.\, they've learned how to live. LOL

Mack, years ago I paid a big price for drinking hard an gambling hard. Got through
it and started drinking only beer for my (whatever). Haven't had a drink of the hard
stuff now in 20 years and haven't missed the losing, stupid life one bit. If I hadn't quit,
with the crazy shit...I would be dead now. Lost more than money...and that's what
hurts. Worked hard to earned respect back from family over the years. Thank you
    Lord.

I enjoy the wagering game...but I realize my limits now. It's Fun the way it should be.
