Calling for managers’ heads is nothing new. WFAN callers have been doing it for years.
But one Mets fan took it to another level on the World Wide Web.

Mickey Callaway’s Mets were still above .500 in early May when long-time suffering fan John Lyons bought the domain “FireMickey.com” for around $30 bucks.
It just so happened to be the day after the Mets batted out of order against the Reds on May 9. Lyons, however, told The News he hasn’t been comfortable with Callaway as the team’s skipper from the start, even after watching the Mets race out to an 11-1 start.
That feels like light years ago at this point, huh?
“I’m not a reactionary guy; I’m a process guy,” Lyons said, unknowingly, or perhaps mockingly, channeling one of Callaway’s go-to buzz words. “I’ve been a Mets fan since the 1970s. We’ve been on-and-off season ticket holders my whole life...this could be the most disappointed I’ve ever been.”
The domain was dormant until Lyons finally had enough of the controversial managerial decisions last weekend (following a Mets’ 5-3 come-from-behind win over the D-backs, no-less) and took four hours to build the site up from his home in Hartford. He then jump-started an accompanying Facebook page which has since garnered 31 likes as of early Tuesday morning.
“Now, with advanced Sabermetrics, we have a new breed of manager,” the homepage reads. “One that focuses on numbers and 'process' only. And he has made a mess of this season.”
There’s a main section, where the above message resides, and one that even takes aim at a former Mets manager not named Terry Collins.
“You thought Joe Torre was a bad Mets manager??” the post reads, an ode to Torre’s forgettable four-and-a-half-year stint more than 40 years ago, followed by “Meet ‘Clueless Mickey.’”
“He has no passion,” Lyons said. “He’s clueless.”
On Monday night, The News, in response to a Peter Botte column, ran a semi-serious Twitter poll — you’ll see what we mean once you look over the options below — asking fans who they blame for the woes in Flushing.
Callaway’s name didn’t crack the list, but the Wilpons and GM Sandy Alderson did, and unsurprisingly garnered the most votes.
‘I love Sandy,” Lyons said, before adding he feels it’s obvious the exec’s way of building a team is outdated.
I am a long-time Mets fan. Followed them since the Yankees had to 'borrow' Shea Stadium when they were renovating their old stadium. Cheered the 1973 team, went to several of their playoff and world series games. I've been a HUGE fane for decades.
I never once called for Terry to be fired. Weather you loved or hated him, he was firey and kept the respect of his players. He wasn't afraid to throw a chair or two in the locker room if guys weren't playing their best or hardest.
Now, with advanced Sabermetrics, we have a new breed of manager. A passionless yes-man. One that focuses on numbers and 'process' only. And he has made a mess of this season.
We can talk about Sandy's future come October. Right now, the Mets need a wake up call. They are asleep. They have a better line up than the 2011, 2012, and 2013 teams and are setting franchise records for fewest hits, fewest runs, etc. Records that have stood since the late 1800's. Yes, the 1800's.
