The Virginia restaurant owner who booted Sarah Huckabee Sanders over the weekend has resigned from a local business association over the debacle.
Stephanie Wilkinson, who runs The Red Hen in Lexington, stepped down as executive director of Main Street Lexington, a volunteer organization dedicated to the city’s revitalization, Fox News reported.
The group accepted her resignation Tuesday.
“Considering the events of the past weekend, Stephanie felt it best that for the continued success of Main Street Lexington, she should step aside,” said Elizabeth Outland Branner, the organization’s president.
The White House press secretary and her family were asked to leave the restaurant Friday because she works for an “inhumane and unethical” administration, Wilkinson told the Washington Post.
“I explained that the restaurant has certain standards that I feel it has to uphold, such as honesty and compassion, and cooperation,” Wilkinson said.
Meanwhile, the quaint restaurant, which has temporarily closed, has become the scene of political protests.
Demonstrators descended on the eatery Tuesday afternoon with signs reading “Homos are full of demons” and “Make America Great Again” flags, according to WSET.
One protester was arrested after throwing what appeared to be chicken feces at the side of the restaurant. Police said he yelled, “Make America great again!” while hurling it.
