Not looking to start an argument, but my thinking is there is more to it than the temperature alone... I want all to be safe, but something just doesn't feel right here... I've seen Saratoga race in mid 90 degree temps.

Pussies downstate.

As a country bumpkin, I love the atmosphere that NYC can bring to life in real terms, but things can get out of hand quickly there... In the late 1970's the longshoreman's unions let ships from Chile sit in the harbor to rot what at THAT time was $7 million dollars worth of fresh fruit.... Today's value... who knows?
Then on the other hand, I'm not anti union....Just saying only in the BIG APPLE!!!

Forgot to add, the produce brokers after that begin bringing the Chile fresh products into the Philadelphia harbors rather than NYC harbors... (why because they lost MONEY!!! )... I'm next to completely ignorant about unions but those in Philadelphia, Pa. seemed to have no problem with the figures for unloading ships. There is something very unique about NYC, that I don't understand... I mean a union is a union in most folks eyes.
But, consider that a new school teacher in very rural Virginia could live on a fraction of what new school teachers in NYC need to survive... And vice versa??? Not a chance!!

I think at some point in history, there will need to be some major corrections..... Hey I was a teacher long ago.

I'm thinking that a lot of trainers/owners are pulling their horses out of races themselves and Belmont is having a hard time making up a card.

No doubt that's a possibility, but have seen a few 3 horse fields in recent memory at Belmont... I truly hope you are right as that could be a reason which may ease the pain for me anyway..(I had a horse to bet my max today... but it's too small to mention)...Just kinda pissed off..

The OP should get his Liberal ass out of that seat and go to the high school track at 2:00 & run 4 laps in 98 degrees & 95% humidity

I think you don't quite get what I'm asking about... It's not a liberal nor conservative issue.... I'm only trying to understand WHAT happened today that caused a cancellation... I'm not a twitter or other social network person... Basically I was simply shocked. If there are guidelines about temps for racing, then I'm offbase here.. I would never wish a hardship on the animals nor humans. Your posts seem to be 99% about politics and that may be the case here... It could very well be, but NYC is certainly one of a rare place in the world! Trying to get some real understanding without foolish words.

That is what this once great website has turned into. It's no longer a sports gambling website. It's a place to get labeled, no matter what the topic.

If the heat index is around 105 seems reasonable to cancel.

Do horses die when it gets this hot?

or is it that way less people will show up?
