Which college quarterback will have the best 2018 season? By best, I mean putting up
numbers and leading his team to victories.

Kelly Bryant - Clemson
Nick Fitzgerald - Mississippi State
Jake Fromm - Georgia
Will Greer - West Virginia
Dwayne Haskins - Ohio State
Justin Herbert - Oregon
Drew Lock - Missouri
Trace McSorley - Penn State
Shea Patterson - Michigan
Jarrett Stidham - Auburn
Tua Tagovailoa - Alabama
Khalil Tate - Arizona

Probably left off a couple you might like....if so, state your case.

bryant are fromm are going to have a really tough time keeping jobs, so they're out

trace mcsorely was a decent qb with barkley but will be garbage on his own

greer, tate, herbert, and lock will put up monster numbers and lock will be a nfl dream (as far as release and arm strength) but their defenses are too weak to be big time heisman guys

obviously I'm partial to Tua who will have insane weapons at RB and WR plus the game's best LT but a questionable RT for his blind side

Stidham was great in home games but this year has to play away/neutral vs UGA, Bama, and Wash (all preseason top 10) plus MST who have some big-time defenders

Harbaugh is allergic to decent offenses so that rules Shea out

Haskins would be my #2 guy....

Guess I'm going with Tua ;)

Grier should up yuge numbers. The entire o is back. Big12 doesnt play d. This may be the best offence since holgorsen has been here. Better than geno, tavon, stedman bailey days.

I didn't put Kyler Murray (Oklahoma) on the initial list but the Sooner coaches rave
about him. I read where one coach said Murray would make Oklahoma fans forget
last year's Heisman winner.

I also left Ryan Finley (NC State) and Jake Browning (Washington) off the list. NFL
scouts love Finley. Browning had a great year in 2016 but didn't put up the numbers
in 2017.

I'm sure there are others that should be considered...……………………..

It is way too early to start figuring this out. 'Bama homers are betting on a kid who had a grand total on one decent half last season. They are buying into the Alabama hype, but this kid is not even close to some of the other QB's. Arizona's Tate will run rings around Tagovailoa, but Arizona will not win as many games as Alabama will. Grier is head and shoulders better than the rest, but West Virginia and Holgersen is 0-6 against Oklahoma and just .500 against Big 12 opposition. For Grier to be taken seriously, West Virginia must defeat non-con foes Tennessee in Charlotte, and N.C. State in Raleigh. Browning has enough talent to lead Washington into the playoffs, but a lot of that is simply the talent surrounding him. Good RB's and a massive experienced OL. Auburn' Stidham is a solid QB, but he loses his running game and a lot of his line. YOu also have to wonder about the way Auburn finished last season, being destroyed by Georgia (a team that they defeated by 23 points 3 weeks earlier) and UCF, a Group of Five participant in the Peach Bowl.

It seems like you left McKenzie Milton off the list (probably on purpose). Keep in mind that he finished 8th in heisman voting as a sophmore. He threw for over 4000 yds last season along with 37 touchdowns. Not sure if you are aware of this, but he didnt lose a game last season

The unknowns: The Freshman candidates. Which one of these will make it big in 2018? We have Trevor Lawrence at Clemson. Spencer Sanders at Oklahoma State. Maryland's Kasim Hill is expected to start. Astur Sitkowski at Rutgers. Tanner Morgan at Minnesota, another potential starter. Tristen Gebbia or Adrian Martinez at Nebraska (Gebbia has the edge now), Chevan Cordeiro at Hawaii, and the QB that many figure is a lock Top 10 QB right now, true Freshman JT Daniels of USC.

Tua will win games, of course, and he will put up impressive numbers in doing so, although he will be playing with a big lead most of the time which will keep a lid on his numbers to some extent. Tate will put up huge numbers in those 45-42 games Arizona is likely to play.

Kelly Bryant is probably going to lose the starting job, hopefully as soon as possible.

What the hell does it matter with Central Florida. He could be named All-NFL before graduating at this frecken fairytale school.
Central Florida LOVES fairy BULLSHIT.....Give him the Gxxdxxx Heisman now cause his chances are SLIM and UCF Sillyness that
he wins it. The once proud school has become a JOKE!

Clover,

you may need to slightly lay off the moonshine while you post in the evenings. Please read what you ORIGINALLY posted.

You asked which college qb will have the best 2018 season and by "best", you meant putting up numbers and leading his team to victories.

Putting up over 4k yards in passing (had a lot of rushing yds as well but dont have the numbers in front of me), 37 passing td's and winning EVERY game last season what you meant? At least putting him up as a top qb since many services and publications have him ranked as a top 10 qb?

I know I know, you dont like Milton b/c you have your crush on a different QB who resides from Hawaii

An interesting tidbit from ESPN. They asked which one of these QB's would have the best season. The choices were Will Greer, Justin Herbert, Trace McSorley, and other. The hands down winner was "other" with 52% of the vote. That tells me that as usual, no one has a clue as to who will be the best QB this season. It is way too early to be discussing that now.

Speaking of "fariy tale", i found this funny while reading an older report on the bleacher report. Funny thing, i believe this occured right after Clover's Bar Mitzvah!!

The 1941 national championship is a fairy tale. Alabama (9-2) had lost to Mississippi State (SEC champs) and Vanderbilt. The Tide finished ranked 20th in the Associate Press Poll, behind four SEC teams.

Minnesota (8-0) swamped Duke (9-0) - now coached by Wallace Wade - in the final poll voting with 84.5 to 9.5 first-place votes. (1941 AP Poll) Minnesota swept the consensus picks (AP, CFRA, HAF, NCF). How can you be a national champion when you do not win your conference, were ranked 20th and had two more losses than the consensus champion?
1941 was the last year anyone claimed a championship who did not win the AP or Coaches Poll. Only Houlgate picked Alabama.

Yeah College Football fans....lets go back to 1941 to make a point for the UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA to claim
a National Football Championship.

Any other comments needed by Central Florida ("Fake") comments needed to justify anything but a good season is
a disservice to the school.

my point was that WVU, AZ, MIZ, and ORE defenses will keep those teams from reaching the number of wins you really need to win a heisman. something like only 3 heisman winners came from teams with more than 3 losses (not including bowls since trophy is given prior to those games being played) so unless those teams win 9 games they are unlikely to be seriously considered. I believe all four were 7-6 last year so a significant improvement would be needed to justify their votes. I wouldn't be surprised if Herbert-Lock-Grier are the 1st 3 QB taken in the draft though...

1925: Myth
Alabama claims they "share" this one with Dartmouth. Who gave the Tide the title? Houlgate and Helms. Houlgate started his system in 1927. Wait a second—this means 'Bama won their 1925 national championship using a formula that didn't even exist until 1927? The other title giver, Helms Athletic Foundation, wasn't founded until 1941. Hmm, another mind-blowing retroactive scam.
1926: Myth
Alabama claims they "share" this one with three other teams with equal or better records. Once again, it is the Helms Athletic Foundation (founded in 1941) that "gives" Alabama this title. But wait, this organization wasn't formed until over 15 years later, right?

1930: Myth
The Parke Davis poll says that 'Bama tied Notre Dame for the national championship this year, but this was the only poll to award it to 'Bama. Meanwhile, Notre Dame was named national champion in six different polls. I thought there could only truthfully be one champion, but I guess I was wrong. Interesting fact: Parke Davis is another retroactive system. He (an individual, not an organization) didn't create his system until 1933—three years after the fact.
1934: Myth
Alabama says they share this title with two other teams. The title givers this time are Dunkel, Williamson, and Football Thesaurus. Dunkel was a fan—check that, fan—who came up with his own polling system. Williamson was a geologist who also came up with his own system. Football Thesaurus didn't even appear until 1946. Once again, 12 years later. Another title that should never have been claimed.
1941: Myth
One day, when I have children, I'll read about this one to them before bed each night. Fact is, it might as well be written in a book full of colorful pictures and fairy tales. The AP ranked Alabama 20th in the nation this season with 14 teams having better records above them. Once again, it is the Football Thesaurus that retroactively awards the Tide this title. Alabama finished third in the SEC that year, while Mississippi State won the SEC title. It completely baffles me that 'Bama claims a national title in 1941.

So how do you claim "17" championships but then dismiss UCF's PERFECT season last year???

I'll hang up and listen

If what you say is true, then I have to think that Khalil Tate will win it. Arizona has a solid chance of winning 9 games. They also play USC and Oregon, two potential losses, at home. The games at Utah and at Houston are the only other real challenges on the schedule.

Tua could very well end up being great but the fact that he is getting so much hype after 1/2 a game of football is ridiculous. In his limited action, his throwing mechanics did not impress me.

Injuries will play a HUGE part in this. 11 starters and 13 players overall are gone for the season for various reasons, and today is only 7/10. A QB can lose some critical offensive linemen and spend the rest of the season running for his life. I am sure there are well over 20 QB's out there that have enough talent to lead teams to successful season IF the circumstances are right. That is a big IF.

Speaking of injuries, does anyone think that the day of "zero pads and protective gear (other than helmets) will become the style of the day for QB's, running backs, receivers and special teams players (No doubt the colors of the jerseys and pants will evolve to a more kaleidoscopic look than they are today......Go Ducks ).

We're practically there now, knee pads along with hip and thigh pads are gone or just a shred of what they used to be. Do they still wear rib pads?

Injuries ? You will need a calculator to keep track. Most of you are too young to remember the science fiction movie, "Roller Ball" staring James Caan that was released in 1975; It was about roller skating as a team sport in the most brutal form with bodies frequently being carried off the rink on stretchers while the franchise owners were carrying on in their sky boxes like Roman Emperors roaring in greedy delight....

College football today isn't "brutal" but is slowly evolving its way there by the way the game is being played today.......ouch.

Injuries have always been part of any contact sport, especially American football but the frequency of these injuries has been on the rise and I suspect the sacrifice of protective gear for increased speed and mobility is scary not to mention the increase in size and speed these players of today poses.
