The American League's starting outfield for next week's All-Star Game certainly isn't lacking in star power, with the Los Angeles Angels' Mike Trout, New York's Aaron Judge and Boston's Mookie Betts getting the nods.

Trout is working on perhaps the best season of his stellar career with the Los Angeles Angels. Judge has 25 homers and 58 RBI for the New York Yankees, and Betts is batting .342 with 22 homers for the major league-leading Boston Red Sox.

The Red Sox have a second starter in designated hitter J.D. Martinez.

The Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs lead the National League's roster with two starters apiece.

First baseman Freddie Freeman and outfielder Nick Markakis, a first-time selection at 34, will be joined in the lineup by Cubs catcher Willson Contrerasand second baseman Javier Baez.

Washington Nationals slugger Bryce Harper will be in his usual spot for the All-Star Game, which will be played July 17 at Nationals Park. Harper, voted an All-Star for the fourth straight year, is batting just .218 this season, but he has 21 homers and 50 RBIs.

Matt Kemp of the Los Angeles Dodgers rounds out the outfield for the National League, with Colorado's Nolan Arenado and San Francisco's Brandon Crawfordjoining Baez and Freeman in the infield for the NL.

Baltimore's Manny Machado, a coveted trade target of contending teams, will start at shortstop for the American League, with Chicago's Jose Abreu, Houston's Jose Altuve and Cleveland's Jose Ramirez joining him in the infield.

Altuve led the fan balloting with 4.8 million votes.

How does Blake Snell not get on the team? or Charlie Morton?

I totally agree with you but nowadays so many guys get added for pitchers due to guys pitching on Sunday or nagging injuries both these guys you mentioned will make it with others.

I agree that both should be in there. I think Morton will go for Verlander, if that's allowed, but you still need to get Snell in the game, shit, he leads the AL in ERA
and a 12 game winner, how could you Not have him in there ??

Do the pitchers still get named by the manager? Or are they on the ballot too?

This kind of says it's different....

The 2018 MLB All-Star Game rosters will be announced on Sunday evening (7 p.m. ET, ESPN), with several factors determining the rosters for each league. Here is a look at how the sausage is made.
Each league will be allowed 32 players on the roster, including 20 position players and 12 pitchers. The composition of said rosters are filled in three parts.
Fan voting

First, the fans vote for the starting position players, which means eight players in the National League and nine — including the designated hitter — in the American League. The outfielders are voted on as a group and not separated by position, with the top three in each league getting to start.
Long gone are the days of the in-stadium paper ballots. This marked the fifth year that All-Star voting is exclusively online. The voting period ended on Thursday night, July 5.
The National League will use a designated hitter during the game, but it is up to the manager to determine who will start there among the remaining position players.
Player voting

MLB players get to vote as well, electing eight position players in each league, plus the designated hitter in the AL. The top vote-getter at each position earns a spot here. In the case that the player vote winner matched the fan vote, the player with the second-highest vote total from the players gets the spot.
Players also select eight pitchers for each side, five starters and three relievers.
Commissioner’s office

At this point we have 16 position players filled in the NL and 18 in the AL, plus eight pitchers in each league. That leaves four position players in the NL and two in the AL, plus four pitchers in each league for the commissioner’s office to fill in.

Thanks BAS. Looks like managers get no say re the pitchers chosen.

So it will be up to the Commish's office to put Blake Snell on the roster.
