Works pretty good. Buddy did it. Got a message back saying someone with same DNA lived nearby , wouldn’t give details til both parties contacted and agreed to release names and sure enough his first cousin that lived an hour a way.

Wife got me a 23 and Me test kit for Fathers Day. Got the results back a week or so ago. Amazing what they can determine from spit. I had to do some research because some of the reports are over my head but I have 989 relatives (People who have submitted and consented to sharing results). Pretty cool information, most are 2nd and 3rd cousins whom I have never heard of or met. No surprise that 43% British and Irish with the rest coming from different European countries. They traced my maternal haplogroup back to a woman 11,000 years ago.

Overall, it is pretty interesting. Sounds like law enforcement is using these sites to get compare DNA from cold cases so I hope that I don't have any 3rd cousins that are serial killers but if I do, I will gladly share my profile. I think that's how they got the Golden State killer a few months ago.

For me it was worth the $65 fee if you don't mind Big Brother having access to your gene pool

That's pretty cool. that 989 count on relatives sounds pretty high, almost like they all got together to do this

Someone from North Africa slipped one past the goalie,my great great grandmother, representing .004% of my makeup. Finch should know that there was absolutely 0.0% swine or razorback in my background

Seems to be a trend, lots of people doing it. Funny how siblings can have different genetics but it's just a matter of which parent dominates their gene pool

One of my old school Italian family friends, a Sicilian, was surprised to learn he had a lot of African / Middle Eastern genes in him. We always joked about how Sicily was a skipping stone from Africa, and that's why he became so dark in the summer. Turns out to have some truth to it.

I haven't done it yet, but I'm going to. Be interesting to learn something about my father's family (an orphan that joined the Navy at age 17 in 1942)

What's the best one? One that traces both your gene pool and your ancestry

have thought about it few times, and want to do it, but then got to thinking if I really want that in someone else's hands.

I did it. I found some 3rd cousin that I didn't know about. We all have a bunch of relatives. I have around 1200 but to be honest it's people that I've never heard of.
I got the one that checks your genes for illnesses as well. Don't know how accurate that is but it's worth it.
