Odds on whether President Trump will be impeached hit a record low of 2 to 1 following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki this week, according to a report.
“What this whole Moscow gruel has taught us is that the Donald is still the biggest ticket in town — and people love to bet on his downfall,” Lee Price, a spokesperson for Paddy Power, a bookmaker in the UK, told the Washington Post.
Before his joint press conference with Putin, odds that Trump would get impeached were 4 to 1; afterward they fell to 2 to 1.
“Given the complexity of the impeachment process, that’s an unprecedented price in terms of how short it is,” Price said. “No president in modern history has had such short odds.”
Bettors also believe there’s less chance Trump will finish out his first term.
The Trump impeachment bet is more popular than Brexit, any UK election or the 100 other special bets on the site, Price said.
The Irish gambling site has capitalized on the Trump presidency since he took office, by offering bets on scenarios like: When will Sean Spicer leave/get sacked as White House press secretary.
Gambling laws differ across the US, but mostly restrict bets to sports or games of chance.
