Noah Syndergaard’s visit to a youth clinic Thursday is likely responsible for the latest wacky medical issue to hit the Mets.

The right-hander was placed on the disabled list Sunday with “hand, foot and mouth disease,” according to assistant general manager John Ricco, and will be replaced in the rotation by Corey Oswalt.

Syndergaard’s contraction of the virus may explain his sluggish performance against the Yankees on Friday in which he was removed after five innings with his fastball dipping into the low 90s.

“We are hopeful he misses just the one start,” Ricco said before the Mets faced the Yankees in The Bronx.

Because the virus is contagious, Syndergaard has stayed removed from the Mets clubhouse since his diagnosis.

Ricco was asked if Syndergaard’s illness eliminated the possibility he will be traded by the July 31 non-waiver deadline.

“I don’t think so because this is a short-term issue and he’s been out there a few times and teams know what he is,” Ricco said

Syndergaard earlier this month returned from a seven-week stint on the disabled list because of a strained ligament in his right index finger.
