The Supreme Court’s decision earlier this year to open the door legalize sports betting means sports fans across the country could soon have the opportunity to gamble in the coming years. Five states – Nevada, New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia and Mississippi – are expected to have betting systems in place by the start of the NFL season, and other states are expected to authorize sports betting in separate waves.
Widespread sports gambling will have massive ramifications on the way we watch, cover and react to sports, and many have expressed concern over the potential dangers of sports gambling.
Legendary sports broadcaster Brent Musburger, who made gambling references in his commentary for years and began hosting a sports betting show after leaving ESPN in early 2018, warned first-timers that they shouldn’t expect to turn gambling into a career.

“Be careful. I would tell you right now that not many people can beat those numbers over a daily, weekly, however you want to do it.
If you’ve never been around it, never experienced it… listen to what people tell you, how to approach it. But don’t think that you’re going to walk in and say ‘this is my life, this what I’m going to do. I’m going to make a good living at this, I can beat these numbers.’ I’m here to tell you you can’t.
Let’s be honest, there are a few guys and a few syndicates who have been successful at it over the years, but there’s a reason why those casinos get bigger and bigger. My warning would be just kind of tiptoe in, stay in the shallow end.”

About 25 years late on the advice. I took a swan dive in the deep when I started.

I would say that most of us have been in the deep end with the hungry crocodiles and pirana and slithery snakes. But if we're here we made it to shore.

Can't argue any of that. He's absolutely right. Great advice. Still though, many will still gamble for the thrill of it or because they believe they will be that one exception lol.

For those who make a living at it I say more power to you.
Much like VD I've been at it for 50+ years.
My only advice is don't wager more than you can afford to lose.
