A Florida restaurant decided to cancel its DirecTV NFL package over the controversy about players kneeling during the national anthem to protest social injustices.

Curtis West, who co-owns Beef O’Brady’s in Brooksville with his wife Janet, told FOX13 Tampa Bay on Monday there will be no NFL games shown because of the “disrespect” the players have shown.

“Last year, with the kneeling and the disrespect to our veterans and our flag and our country, I was very upset,” West told the station.

The restaurant will save more than $5,000 by canceling its package and instead will offer veterans 40 percent off on food Sundays during game days, the station reported.

West hung up posters alerting his customers of the change.

“Beef O'Brady's will not be financially supporting the NFL this year due to their lack of compassion and gratitude for our American service members,” the poster read. “Our National Anthem is one of the methods we as American citizens have always used to show our appreciation to all military service members, past or present, alive or dead. This tradition deserves respect and unfortunately, the NFL does not feel that same way. So, for this season, we will not be purchasing the NFL ticket. Perhaps, it will make a difference if it hits their wallets.”

West said he didn’t believe the players intended to disrespect veterans with their protest.

“This is what we are doing, this is the stance we take, and the money we would've spent, we are going to spend on our vets,” he said.

Beef O’Brady’s will not be totally football-free. West said he will show NFL games on the local stations because he’s not specifically paying for them.

West concedes Sundays probably will be much slower, but believes the risk is worth it.

“We are proud to support our troops, we don't kneel, and thank you for your service,” West said as he read one of his posters. “It's a big deal to us.”

The NFL's kneeling controversies began after former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick took a knee during the national anthem in 2016 in protest of social injustices in the U.S. Since then, protests against social injustices during the national anthem have been a hotly contested issue, even prompting responses from the White House.

More restaurants & bars need to do this, but unfortunately they won't cuz it will mean less business w/o NFL Sundays.

5000.00 seems like an absurd sum to be paying for the nfl package.

Very absurd, but its commercial, hence the retarded price. I have a friend that has a sports bar that pays a high figure to have the NFL ticket, I personally think its stupid, but he makes his money back.

Lmao yeah sounds like the least of their concern was whether or not people are kneeling. Paying that much for nfl ticket, I wouldn’t buy it either.

People who truly quit watching the nfl....or even say they did....but really didn’t.....those people are the funniest and dumbest people on the planet right now. Love hearing them speak.

”my grandfather is rolling in his grave right now.” Lmfaoooo. So he was also a racist ignorant fool?

thats the worst. used to manage a bar and called to see what it would be for a ufc fight and the charge per seat or some ridiculous thing. couldnt believe it. got a few restaurants where i live that have it under personal accounts which avoids all the extra costs but dont know how they do it. i cancelled my subscription today. saturdays are more fun than sundays and im good with getting 2 games at 1, 1 at 4 and a night game on sunday. no need for all of them, rather enjoy my weekends.

It is as cheap as it has ever been due to people canceling their subscription lol. Once you guys realize that nobody cares that you aren’t watching.....you will start watching again. It’s like the red neck way of protesting. Except trump isn’t calling any white people unintelligent and sons of bitches, only minorities. So they actually have something to be pissed off about....A racist president. Canceling a subscription is a lot of red necks way of protesting and getting revenge against the blacks who are protesting lmao. I don’t like it because sports truly has no color. If you can play, then you can play.

2+ years on this topic. Only reason it isn’t settled and done with is because Trump keeps pouring fire on the situation. I think a lot of players in the NFL had no issues with Trump and you noticed there was only like 2 or 3 players protesting at first.....then it ballooned to many players protesting, and one week....every single team including the Cowboys. Because he couldn’t shutup. I had no problem with Trump. Presidents are gonna do what they do........But when you try to fuck up my sports....now I have a problem.

So you have to ask yourself....why are you really saying you are done watching? I’ll tell you why.... Trump. It’s not about the flag anymore because a lot have realized it never was about the flag. Only way I’m not watching the nfl is if my woman has something to do about it. Not Trump lmfaooooo. Not any president. Shaking my head....

A blatant racist president....I just can’t cosign that. I know a lot of white people cant either. I don’t really care about it outside of this forum because I’m not a minority. But I can’t respect people who laugh and joke and think the shit is all fun and games just because your white. Shits stupid ignorant. I usually don’t call people stupid, only what they say is stupid. But this is different. This is co-signing someone’s actions over and over and worshipping it. If it isn’t stupidity, then it is racism. Just is what it is....nobody picked their parents or their own skin color or where they originated from. That’s why I can’t fuck with ignorant racist people.

Bingo......but to the left wing liberals, they don't want to face reality. Their answer to everything is, if you don't agree with them, their agenda or narrative, you're a racist! That's all they have to combat anyone not agreeing with them.
