A Wake Forest basketball coach was arrested in Queens on Thursday for landing a knock-out punch to a drunken Florida tourist — who later died in the hospital, sources said.

Jamill Jones — an assistant to Danny Manning at the ACC basketball program — allegedly slugged Boca Raton resident Sabor Szabo in the head early Sunday morning for drunkenly banging on his car in Long Island City, according to law enforcement sources.

Szabo — in town for his stepsister’s wedding — had left his brother’s LIC hotel and was looking for a cab he ordered, his family claimed.
Szabo, 35, banged multiple cars in front of 41-10 29 Street at around 1:15 a.m., sources said.

A local resident heard the ruckus and came out of his home to confront Szabo, who then punched that person in the face, according to the sources.

Jones then approached Szabo and slugged him — causing him to fall to the ground and hit his head on the pavement.

Szabo was taken to the hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

Police released surveillance video on Sunday that showed the assailant walking away from the scene.

Jones surrendered at the 114th Precinct stationhouse in Astoria on Thursday morning along with his lawyer. He was awaiting arraignment at Queen Criminal Court.

The medical examiner hasn’t revealed whether Jones’ punch led to Szabo’s death. Law enforcement sources said the charges against Jones could be upgraded depending on the findings.

The 35-year-old assistant coach was hired by Wake Forest in 2017. He was previously an assistant coach at University of Coastal Florida and Virginia Commonwealth University.

A representative for Wake Forest did not return a request for comment from The Post.

Colleagues in Szabo’s hometown of Boca Raton said earlier this week that they hoped their friend’s attacker would be caught.

“I hope they find him and bring him to justice,” co-worker Josh Gillon told WPEC-TV on Tuesday. “This was really a stupid, stupid act. It’s a big family and he was an important part of it so everybody is just heartbroken.”

Not defending Jones but the victim here created the situation and deserved an ass beating, but not to die.

The victim knocked on Jones' window because he thought he was driving an Uber. Not sure that deserves an ass beating or to die?

Jamill Jones has been arrested and charged with third-degree assault.

A third-degree assault charge is a misdemeanor in New York.

Jones was released on his own recognizance and was ordered to return to court on Oct. 2.

Ends a guys life with 1 punch and he walks out of the courthouse. And he gets charged with a misdemeanor. You gotta be kidding.

I guess I'll be in the minority here. Should everyone involved in a fight be charged with a felony? Punches get thrown all the time in fights, and it's always possible someone could get hit in the wrong spot/fall the wrong way and someone could die.

The guy (victim) had just punched another guy in the face and approached the coach, presumably in an aggressive manner. If he hadn't just punched the other guy, that would change everything IMO. I'd agree he should be charged much more harshly.

I really doubt the coach intended to kill him, he was probably expecting that he'd get punched too. Sometimes unfortunate things happen.

Tried to catch a ride, and caught them hands instead.

Not sure you can really blame the guy for slugging him, but obviously street fighting isn't really something you want to do in this day and age of cameras everywhere.

Street fighting or self defense? Huge difference.
