Your Friday freebie will be to lay some road juice at Petco Park and side with the first-place Phillies over the last-place Padres.

Philadelphia did drop 2 of 3 in Arizona leading up to this weekend set in Diego, but they still have recorded the win in 6 of their last 8 games overall, and they have already claimed 2 of the 3 wins in the season series against San Diego this year.

San Diego is back home after winning 3 of their final 4 on the road, but playing at Petco Park is no guarantee that the winning will continue especially since the Padres have dropped 16 of their last 21 at home.

Zach Efflin pitches off a win over Miami that upped his ledger to 8-3 on the season, and also lowered his ERA to 3.61.

Jacob Nix is part of the continued youth movement going on in San Diego, as he will make his Major League debut.

All I can say is, "welcome to the show, kid!"

    Phillies score the win.

    4* PHILADELPHIA

My free winner for tonight is on the Angels over the Oakland Athletics, who visit Anaheim for a weekend set. And do not list pitchers in this game.

I know the A's just closed out a series in Los Angeles with a win over the Dodgers, and yes they're sitting in second place in the American League West, but this rivalry is always intense, and the Halos are playing well.

I know Mike Trout is questionable, but there is more to the Halos than the slugger. This is an offense that has belted 158 home runs this season - fourth most in the bigs. And at home, their 86 homers rank third in the league.

As a staff on the road, Oakland has an ERA of 4.27, and has allowed 73 home runs - seventh most in the bigs. That doesn't bode well when you have guys like Andrelton Simmons leading the Angels with 122 hits on the season and hitting .310 on the year. Kole Calhoun has three home runs and seven RBIs while slugging .605 over his past 10 games for the Halos.

Take the slim dog at home.

    1* ANGELS
