My dad won a 50" Sharp Roku TV 4K UHD and I want to know how hard is this to set up ? By the way I am getting rid of Direct TV in a month as Im on a contract and I am not paying for them to have NFL Sunday Ticket and jacking up the prices. So what are my choices that you would recommend to a TV Novice like me to replace them. Thanks in advance for your help on this matter

I've got a couple Amazon firestick's and have a pay service that gets all the sports packages for $10 a month. See Bushay at EOG, not sure if he posts here but he sells them with the software already loaded. You sign up for an account and once you pay you are all set. Most of the games are in HD

I would add to pats suggestion that with firesticks you need excellent wifi.

I have two but where i currently live my internet options are limited & the speeds aren't that of larger areas.

By the way we have Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime tv, which you can get on your smart television, and other than sports have no use for satellite or regular tv anymore.

but if you get the fire tv you can plug the ethernet in directly which nearly assures you will have the best speeds available ... of course need the tv to be in a place where you can feed a wire from the router to the device

As far as setting up the TV, it isn't complicated at all.
It will just have Roku and a bunch of other apps on it. You need to connect it to your wi-fi network and just setup the apps.

You can forget Sunday ticket and just watch NFL Redzone.

I’ve been running a fire stick with Kodi installed with very fast internet and it really struggles streaming HD content sometimes. Anyone have experience with the fire stick vs the fire TV with the Ethernet cable plugged directly into the fire tv? I’ve always wondered what the big difference was between the stick and the tv. My internet is 1 Gb/s.

Gravy if you wsnt to try the streaming services send me a pm and I can hook you up with bushay. He's the man when it comes to the Amazon boxes. He charges a little more than others but he puts good stuff on the boxes and is always there for support if you have any problems

Sometimes it has more to do with the steams or feeds than your internet connection. As long as you clear out your cache and restart your modem and router you should be fine. I have had buffering on the fire TV box when plugged into my router via an Ethernet cable. Just depends on the feed or stream you are using

Gravy I started with a stick at first because it's cheaper and I was skeptical about how long it would last. Eventually I bought the boxes since you can add more apps to them than the sticks. The sticks have less memory. TVG has a great app that works on either the stick or box. That is free and you get both tvg and tvg2

This isn't because of your Internet, it is the stream coming from the servers.

do is a speed test on your laptop from wifi where the fire stick is at to plugging it into the router directly. probably 2-3x faster

makes all the difference which is why i use a fire tv and not a fire stick. even when i was running kodi off my laptop i would just plug an ethernet cord directly. kodi sucked in my basement where wifi was half the speed on a good day

just run an ethernet from router to near the TV and then plug it into an ethernet port. you can then have one line going from port to fire tv and another if you want to hardline your laptop to max out the speed. i have 3 lines....one going into the TV directly (smart tv like you just got), 2nd line going into a fire tv in a 2nd tv, and 3rd line going to a fire tv in the main tv.

i can watch a stream movie on big screen, espn+ off fire tv on 2nd screen, and a match on my laptop without any of the feeds being compromised

This is good information guys thanks a bunch I figured some of it had to do with the stream itself and not my internet. I’m gonna order the fire TV and try it out.

i'd call in the best buy geek squad myself for the 90.00 they charge if you are unsure. you want it right from the get go and if you lack patience or do not want to spend the time just sit back and watch them do it.
