I know we still have one game left to officially end week 1, but I hadn't seen anyone start this thread yet. Always informative to see what everyone adds here. Lot's of valuable inputs, so please share.

- Texas is the biggest surprise to me. Not covering the spread, to me, would have been a bad sign for Texas. But to lose outright? Unbelievable.

- Temple losing to a 1AA. Collins really shit the bed.

- UCF's offense is unbelievable. Rolled up 650+ yards in 21 minutes TOP.

- This will be Alabama's best offense in the history of the program.

The perception of the Texas and Michigan programs by their fans vs. the reality of what the programs really are is a pretty massive gap.

We learned a lot about the SEC, they dominated ATS in non conference games.

Agree.
Excellent observation.
The BRAND lingers with the spreads for traditional powerhouse programs that have fallen, and the line supports the BRAND too long.

Big 10 shocked me with Sparty and Penn State looking like crap in week 1 and getting a scare.
PAC 12 looked bad with UCLA and Zona losing games where they were double digit favorites

A few teams losing or barely beating 1AA teams doesnt set a good tone for the season

Nice to see teams in the SEC WEST Ole Miss, Auburn, Bama, and LSU win games vs power 5 conferences (3 of those 4 games had close spreads).

Curious to see where teams get re-ranked in this weeks polls

The type of player recruiting in the SEC shows on the field. Just a different type of player.

Tennessee is terrible

The PAC will need another team to step up if the conference wants to make the playoffs. It's a tough argument now for Washington unless Auburn loses 3-4 games....and I dont see that

Harbaugh is terrible and should be canned if Michigan wants to be relevant again.

Mark Richt is still Mark Richt and will never be able to win a big game.

Saban made the right decision at quarterback. Defense is strong as always.

LSU's defense is nasty good and the QB made some great checks that resulted in scores.
He will really help the Tiger offense. Smart kid.

UAB off to strong start and looks to be better than last year.

Auburn's front seven is really good.

Oklahoma's offense may be better or as good as last year's team.

Hawaii the surprise team of the young season.

What the hell is going on with Texas?

Huh? Here in Michigan they have been and are SCREAMING about that program for years. And after Strong wrecked Texas, those fans have been doing the same. Don't mistake supporting a program with the fanbase thinking they can complete with Alabama.

Also, losing on the road to NOTRE DAME by a score is NOT the same as Texas losing to Big 10 East slouch Maryland, who's program is in turmoil at the moment and was missing half their coaching staff.

What have we learned?

Outside of 2 teams, Oklahoma and TCU, the Big 12 is as bad a conference as many people believe. KANSAS - after losing to Nicholls State, shows they may be one of the worst FBS teams in the nation. And Kansas State nearly lost to South Dakota. Texas losing to Big 10 slouch Maryland didn't help the cause.
If the Big 12 wants to be taken seriously come playoff time, they have some work to do.

John Bonamego is a HORRIBLE head coach. How does Central Michigan win the turnover battle in the first half 4-0, and head to the locker room down 21-20??
And at the end of the game when it was a 2 score game, CMU ran more time off the clock than Kentucky did. This guy can recruit, but like so many others, he can't manage a game.

Agree with all so far. Things do improve for those looking God awful. While some have shown true colors for rest of season. Adjustments always made. Week to week match ups sometimes create opportunities for some to be more competitive. I’d add on or concur that Michigan & Texas are no where near past glory. Way overrated which Vegas factors in but will adjust lines for their poor coaching & poor play. Both IMO will struggle in conf and lucky to make a Toilet bowl.

Sadly the SEC is and will be foreseeable future the measuring stick for great vs avg. With ACC/Clemson being caveat. Just don’t see many that can contend come playoff and Ship with SEC team(s).

We also learned that Coaches have to be very careful what they say to TV sportscasters during post game interviews (i. e. Saban having to apologize as to how he fielded a question pertaining to the QB situation after Alabama's blow-out win over Louisville with that female ESPN commentator).....What a crock of Politically Correct Bull Shit.

BYU better than expected. Could be solid ATS.
Ohio State will be much better with Haskins at QB.
Washington should have beaten Auburn. Screwed up in red zone.

As good as UCF's offense is their defense is that bad. Gave up a ton of yards to a bad UConn team.

Agreed on Bama but on the flip side, a lot of players running open in their secondary. Ark St catching 5TDs against that secondary is interesting to me.

The Big 12 has a real problem. 8 out of their 10 teams have no chance of winning their conference and moving on. The two that have a decent shot, OU and West Virginia, play at West Virginia to end the regular season, and then will probably meet the following week at AT&T Stadium. That is a good way to knock both teams out of the playoffs.

Something I've always kept up with in the first 2 weeks of the season is HUGE lines of +40 or more, so far we have:

+40 to +49 = 5-4 ats
+50 or more = 2-0 ats

This week:

Holy Cross +43.5 vs BC
Portland St +47.5 vs Oregon
Wagner +43 vs Syracuse
Lamar +42.5 vs TT
N Dakota +43 vs Washington
Sav St +54.5 vs Miami
SC St +45.5 vs UCF
Indiana St +44.5 vs Louisville
Bama St +53.5 vs Auburn

The faves jump out early then sit starters to prevent injuries

Agree about BYU. Disagree about Washington. Auburn had multiple chances to finish the game in the 1H and settled for fgs. I thought Auburn was 14 pts better and they should have been 21 pts better. Always gotta have the Gus factor tho....he is good for giving an opponent 7-10 pts per game.
