Fantasy football flex rankings for Week 2

Eric Karabell
ESPN PLUS

ew laughed, we cried, and we presumably learned quite a bit in Week 1 of the 2018 fantasy season. Now it is time for Week 2, and while some of the names below might not look like they deserve similar placement to last week, it was, after all, only one week.

One game.
If you liked Denver Broncos rookie Royce Freeman all summer long, then that should not have changed after one game in which he really did not play so badly. Travis Kelce and Josh Gordon and myriad others need more targets. They might get them in Week 2.Regardless, here we go again.

Let us flex!

1. Todd Gurley II, RB, Los Angeles Rams: Not his greatest performance, but if 23.7 PPR points is average, then sign us up.
2. Alvin Kamara, RB, New Orleans Saints: The top scorer in Week 1, and that includes the quarterbacks. Wait until he gets more rushing attempts.

3. Antonio Brown, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers: Even when his quarterback is bad on the road, Brown is not.
4. Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Dallas Cowboys: Certainly not his best game, and the rest of the offense looked terrible. We do not downgrade yet, though.
5. David Johnson, RB, Arizona Cardinals: Same as Elliott, really. Cardinals cannot be this bad offensively.
6. Julio Jones, WR, Atlanta Falcons: He got the end zone looks, but Matt Ryan
was not quite right. Do not worry about Julio.
7. Odell Beckham Jr., WR, New York Giants: Kept his cool in a tough matchup and now it is not a tough matchup.
8. Saquon Barkley, RB, New York Giants: Pessimists will say he did not do much other than the electrifying touchdown run, and I will say that was kind of how things went at Penn State too. Still worth it.
9. Melvin Gordon, RB, Los Angeles Chargers: We love when running backs get 13 targets. Wow.
10. Michael Thomas, WR, New Orleans Saints: The Saints will play better defense moving forward, which might not aid players like Kamara and Thomas.
11. DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Houston Texans
12. Kareem Hunt, RB, Kansas City Chiefs: Not like his Week 1 last season, but be patient. It isn't as if Spencer Ware had many touches -- he had four.
13. Christian McCaffrey, RB, Carolina Panthers: Ten rushing attempts in Game 1, which is not exactly as advertised.
14. Dalvin Cook, RB, Minnesota Vikings
15. Jordan Howard, RB, Chicago Bears: If Mitchell Trubisky keeps throwing the football his way, he can be an RB1.
16. Keenan Allen, WR, Los Angeles Chargers
17. A.J. Green, WR, Cincinnati Bengals
18. Leonard Fournette, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars: Left Week 1 early with a hamstring injury, but he says it is no big deal. Not the first time Fournette has dealt with injury in his young career.
19. Joe Mixon, RB, Cincinnati Bengals: So far, so good. Plenty of work for Mixon at all areas of the field.
20. James Conner, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers: What? Why is he not No. 1? OK, hold on there. There is still no sign of Le'Veon Bell but there remain other safer, more reliable running backs.
21. Tyreek Hill, WR, Kansas City Chiefs: Eh, that was a decent first game.
22. Rob Gronkowski, TE, New England Patriots
23. Davante Adams, WR, Green Bay Packers: Would be nice if it is Aaron Rodgers throwing his way and not DeShone Kizer, but we might not find out for a few days.
24. Devonta Freeman, RB, Atlanta Falcons
25. Adrian Peterson, RB, Arizona Cardinals: Nobody said he would never have big games. He had big games last season. The key is consistency.
26. LeSean McCoy, RB, Buffalo Bills: Do not give up on last year's No. 7 PPR running back. It is one game, and it really could not have been much worse. McCoy will be fine.
27. Mike Evans, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Are you still worried that the absence of Jameis Winston is a problem? Nope.
28. T.Y. Hilton, WR, Indianapolis Colts: For one game, at least, Andrew Luck looked fine.
29. Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Arizona Cardinals
30. Dion Lewis, RB, Tennessee Titans: He appears to be the Titans flex option you want.
31. Adam Thielen, WR, Minnesota Vikings
32. Stefon Diggs, WR, Minnesota Vikings
33. Demaryius Thomas, WR, Denver Broncos
34. Jarvis Landry, WR, Cleveland Browns: Told you he would be fine switching teams. Had 15 targets and 106 receiving yards. Landry did not surpass 100 yards in any game last season.
35. Alex Collins, RB, Baltimore Ravens: The touchdown saved an otherwise blah performance. My only concern would be the others playing well in his backfield.
36. Lamar Miller, RB, Houston Texans
37. Allen Robinson, WR, Chicago Bears: His problem will not be that his quarterback cannot find him.
38. Golden Tate, WR, Detroit Lions: Enough of the Matthew Stafford passes caught by Lions went to Tate, which is all that matters if you invested in Tate.
39. JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
40. Marvin Jones Jr., WR, Detroit Lions
41. Royce Freeman, RB, Denver Broncos: The other Denver rookie running back really did not outplay him. Give it time.
42. Kenyan Drake, RB, Miami Dolphins: Yes, he is sharing touches, but Drake had opportunity to produce numbers, and that will continue.
43. Amari Cooper, WR, Oakland Raiders: I would say I am concerned about this talent, but I had reduced expectations entering the season. That offense is not going to shine.
44. Emmanuel Sanders, WR, Denver Broncos: Annually underrated.
45. Derrick Henry, RB, Tennessee Titans
46. Jay Ajayi, RB, Philadelphia Eagles: Found the end zone twice, but the same concerns about health and time-sharing remain.
47. Josh Gordon, WR, Cleveland Browns: Why would he not get more targets? He saw many snaps. It makes no sense.
48. Kenny Stills, WR, Miami Dolphins: Another performance like that and he moves into WR2 territory.
49. Michael Crabtree, WR, Baltimore Ravens
50. Travis Kelce, TE, Kansas City Chiefs: I laugh when people say he cannot rock because of the new quarterback. It is one game!
51. Zach Ertz, TE, Philadelphia Eagles: Plenty of targets, he just dropped a third of them.
52. Isaiah Crowell, RB, New York Jets
53. Marshawn Lynch, RB, Oakland Raiders: Looked spry in the early going, and scored a touchdown, but then that was it. Beware of this offense.
54. Chris Thompson, RB, Washington Redskins
55. Duke Johnson Jr., RB, Cleveland Browns: I will not give up on him after one game. He did nothing in Week 1 last season and still ended up the No. 11 PPR running back. The targets will be there.
56. Rex Burkhead, RB, New England Patriots
57. Jamaal Williams, RB, Green Bay Packers: Did not look special in Game 1, and in his case, the pending season debut of Aaron Jones is going to be a problem, methinks.
58. Cooper Kupp, WR, Los Angeles Rams
59. Brandin Cooks, WR, Los Angeles Rams
60. Robert Woods, WR, Los Angeles Rams: Honestly, one week it will be Woods getting all the attention at the expense of the others. None of these fellows is a WR3, but each has value.
61. Peyton Barber, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
62. Chris Carson, RB, Seattle Seahawks
63. Chris Hogan, WR, New England Patriots: Expected more targets for him. This week they face the Jags.
64. Robby Anderson, WR, New York Jets: Turned his target into a touchdown. His quarterback looks competent, so this is a potential WR3 for sure.
65. Nelson Agholor, WR, Philadelphia Eagles: Would like it if a catch or two went more than five or six yards.
66. Carlos Hyde, RB, Cleveland Browns
67. Bilal Powell, RB, New York Jets: Is he valuable again or was the Lions' defense simply that embarrassing?
68. Evan Engram, TE, New York Giants
69. Jordan Reed, TE, Washington Redskins: He is healthy today. We could ask for more, but he cannot comply. We know he is good.
70. Trey Burton, TE, Chicago Bears: Hewill be a top-10 tight end this season. Do not panic.
71. Marquise Goodwin, WR, San Francisco 49ers: He's dealing with a thigh bruise and might not be ready for this weekend.
72. Devin Funchess, WR, Carolina Panthers
73. Corey Davis, WR, Tennessee Titans: Got plenty of snaps and 13 targets. Frankly, this might be a bit like the Buccaneers when they lost their starting QB. The backup might be just fine for the receivers.
74. Randall Cobb, WR, Green Bay Packers
75. Tevin Coleman, RB, Atlanta Falcons
76. Matt Breida, RB, San Francisco 49ers: Here we might not have learned a thing.
77. Alfred Morris, RB, San Francisco 49ers
78. Jamison Crowder, WR, Washington Redskins
79. Will Fuller V, WR, Houston Texans: Missed the first game with a hamstring injury, but the upside is there when healthy.
80. Pierre Garcon, WR, San Francisco 49ers
81. Kerryon Johnson, RB, Detroit Lions: Not sure any Lions running back -- and we have been saying this for a really long time -- is worth much.
82. Tarik Cohen, RB, Chicago Bears
83. James White, RB, New England Patriots
84. Jordy Nelson, WR, Oakland Raiders
85. Tyler Lockett, WR, Seattle Seahawks: Opportunities should be there if Doug Baldwin misses games, which he should.
86. Sterling Shepard, WR, New York Giants
87. Marlon Mack, RB, Indianapolis Colts: See the Lions. In time, we might get clarity on the running back situation, but for now, nobody is worth trusting.
88. Jordan Wilkins, RB, Indianapolis Colts
89. Sony Michel, RB, New England Patriots: I still think he is going to have some exceptional performances this season. Be patient.
90. Theo Riddick, RB, Detroit Lions
91. Quincy Enunwa, WR, New York Jets: He will not get those targets every week. Individual matchups always play a role. Regardless, he is worth a look.
92. Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Buffalo Bills: Josh Allen can make him relevant.
93. T.J. Yeldon, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars: Moves into James Conner territory if Fournette misses time.
94. Phillip Lindsay, RB, Denver Broncos: Could move into Freeman territory soon, but not yet.
95. Austin Ekeler, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
96. Chris Godwin, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Eagles figure to play better defense than the Saints did.
97. DeSean Jackson, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
98. Kyle Rudolph, TE, Minnesota Vikings
99. Jack Doyle, TE, Indianapolis Colts
100. George Kittle, TE, San Francisco 49ers
Others: Mohamed Sanu, WR, Atlanta Falcons; Keelan Cole, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars; Kenny Golladay, WR, Detroit Lions; Ryan Grant, WR, Indianapolis Colts; Sammy Watkins, WR, Kansas City Chiefs; Rashaad Penny, RB, Seattle Seahawks; Frank Gore, RB, Miami Dolphins; Mike Wallace, WR, Philadelphia Eagles; Josh Doctson, WR, Washington Redskins; Ty Montgomery, RB, Green Bay Packers; Alfred Blue, RB, Houston Texans; Darren Sproles, RB, Philadelphia Eagles
