Got the news about Tmader late yesterday afternoon. Over the years there have been several deaths
here that hit me hard. Shrink, Panther, DDD, and now Tmader. This is a tough industry. If you do this
professionally and or if you work in it in some capacity (sportsbook, forum, service, consultant, etc) it
takes a toll on you. You start to age in what might be like dog years. You can find yourself becoming an
introvert and living in a bubble. Relationships and friendships can be tough to maintain when you are
entrenched in this industry.
This is a very fair weather industry. There is no grey area. Probaly 95% of the people we will come across
will be our best friend during the good times. Anyone who does this for a living, and or works at a sportsbook,
forum, service, consultant, etc knows exactly what I'm talking about. If you ever seen the movie Goodfellas,
there is the iconic "F*ck You....Pay Me" scene that describes most of the 95% of our fake friends in this industry.
But every now and again you meet someone in that rare 5% in this industry and or hobby of ours. Someone who
is a true friend. Someone who is genuine, doesn't just want something from you, and who you can actually trust.
For me Tmader was one of those rare people in this industry.
I first met him on here several years ago. I had mentioned in a post and also on some guys radio show at that time
that I had been around the gaming industry since the age of 12. He was pretty intrigued by that. He sent me a PM
asking a few questions about what that was like, etc. I replied back to him, that his avatar (a kid sitting on the toliet
taking a dump while reading the sports page) was the worst avatar in the forum. That I thought it was even worse than
Mobdeeper's. Not quite the response to his PM that he thought he would get. But he was so eccentric and outside of the
box, and quirky in a super cool way that we became instant friends.
I think just about every one of Tmader's friends (myself included) have had either a good arguement with him or a full
fledged dust up at least once during the friendship. He could be as stubborn as he could be loyal at times. And he would
have your back at all times. And he would also call you out if he felt you were in the wrong. We had our only dust up about
a year into our friendship. Me and him each had forum friends that were feuding at the time. We exchanged F-bombs and
did not speak to one another for nearly four or five months. Then one day out of the blue he sent me a PM asking how I was
doing and more importantly how my mother who had a heart attack months earlier was doing. He used a saying that he would use quite often "lets just agree to disagree" he felt life moved by too fast to sweat the small things.
I think sometimes people did not know what to make of him. Was he some eccentric guy, was he an internet character, etc.
Years ago I shot him a PM out of the blue with the header "Question????" In the message I wrote, "I've been meaning to ask
you this for a few years now, but do you really ride a bike 26 f*cking miles a day?" He thought that was the funniest thing he
had ever been asked. He claimed he did and I never asked him about any of the other stuff.
The Parlay thread. He absolutely loved that. Tmader was all about camraderie and making that thread all inclusive. I know
for a fact that he really cared for all you guys that participated in that thread over the years. He wanted to win those more
for the guys contributing, than he did for himself. A couple years back he asked me if I would get involved with the parlay
thread for a few weeks. He wanted to do an invite/select team with a few of his guys and me and a couple of my guys.
He wanted me to "Coach" his select/invite team a couple days a week for a few weeks. That was when I really learned what
a truly good guy Tmader was.
He would shoot me PM messages with just about every guy who had ever participated in those threads. He would mention
every persons strength, something good about them, etc. When I look back at that time reading those, it reminds me of what
a truly great guy he was, how much he cared for all you guys that participated in his threads, and how much he loved the
camraderie. He did not do smaller parlays because he did not understand the odds. He did those larger parlays so he could
include as many of you as possible.
A lot of fond memories from that time that I can look back at now and smile and have a good laugh. I could write ten pages
of stuff that would have you rolling on the floor laughing from my few weeks of being a part of that. Some of the PM messages back and forth during that time were comedy gold with Tmader. I think some of the guys that were on his "all-star" team
during that project can attest to how fun Tmader was behind the scenes.
I know a lot of friends want to honor him and his memory with doing some parlays and some stuff like that. For me as one
of his friends, I want to honor his memory going forward in a different way. He was all about camraderie and being inclusive.
He saw the best in every forum member, even if the drove him crazy or got under his skin, he still was about beating the book.
When I return to posting in the forums, I'm going to honor his memory and my friendship I had with him by doing some things.
I'm going to be more about the camraderie like Tmader was, and F*ck all the dumb, petty, and silly forum bull shit type of stuff.
If I can't do something to help someone, I'm certainly not going to do something to hurt someone. That might be a good thing for many of us to consider doing to honor his memory and make these forums better going forward.
For anyone who I have maybe ever offended, been a jerk to, lost contact with, or not been a better forum friend to, I am going
to apologize and extend my hand in friendship and offer a clean slate going forward. And on the flip side I'm going to forgive and
let go of any stupid silly shit. Life is too short. We all were reminded of that over the last couple of days.
