ENSURING FEDERAL READINESS: The Trump Administration has taken extensive steps to ensure the Federal Government is prepared for Hurricane Florence and other storms.

  • President Donald J. Trump and his Administration are monitoring multiple storms, including Florence, Olivia, Mangkut, and Isaac, and the President has mobilized the Federal Government to support response efforts.
  • The Trump Administration began putting precautionary measures in place before Labor Day.
  • In anticipation of these storms, President Trump granted emergency declarations for North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Hawaii, and the Northern Mariana Islands.
    • As a result, FEMA will have more authorization to assist areas affected by these storms.

PROVIDING NEEDED RESOURCES: The Trump Administration is dedicating resources to help private and public partners prepare and respond to the impact of these storms.

  • Federal agencies are working to support efforts by the private sector and State and local authorities to provide needed resources in response to these storms.
  • The private sector is the first source for goods in affected areas, and if those supplies are exhausted State, local, and volunteer agencies provide needed supplies.
  • Among the prepositioned resources are over 11 million meals, over 18 million liters of water, over 60 thousand cots, and over 1 million blankets.
  • FEMA has more than two dozen Incident Support Bases, Distribution Centers, and other sites with life-saving supplies throughout the east coast, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Guam, and the Northern Marianas Islands.
  • FEMA National and Regional Response Coordination Centers have been activated to coordinate with State governments, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector.

The Trump administration diverted $10 million from FEMA to support ICE, documents show

  • The Trump administration diverted nearly $10 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to fund immigration detention centers, documents show.
  • The news comes as a Category 4 hurricane barrels toward the Carolinas, and President Donald Trump continues to defend his widely criticized response to last year's hurricanes in Puerto Rico.

Trump diverted money away from FEMA at the beginning of hurricane season to help put more immigrant children seeking refuge in kiddie prisons - this is horrifying!

It's not just FEMA: ICE quietly got an extra $200 million

As a potentially catastrophic hurricane bears down on the East Coast of the US, the shifting of $10 million from FEMA's operating budget to fund immigration detention and deportations is drawing condemnation from Democrats.

But that's a drop in the bucket.
The Trump administration this summer quietly redirected $200 million from all over the Department of Homeland Security to Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, despite repeated congressional warnings of ICE's "lack of fiscal discipline" and "unsustainable" spending.
The Department of Homeland Security asked for the money, according to a document made public this week by Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley. Of the $200 million, the document says $93 million will go to immigrant detention, a 3% budget increase that will fund capacity for an additional 2,300 detainees; and $107 million for "transportation and removal," or deportations, a 29% budget increase.
In addition to this summer's widely condemned move to separate families at the border, the administration has drawn criticism for arresting a far greater rate of noncriminal undocumented immigrants and seeking to detain them much longer. On Tuesday, the administration announced it would tripling the size of an emergency temporary tent facility to house more immigrant children.

DHS transferred about $170M from separate agencies to ICE this year: report

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reportedly transferred about $170 million from different government agencies to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) this year.
NBC News, citing a document sent to Congress by DHS, reported on Thursday that the funds were transferred to ICE in order to help the agency with the removal and detention of immigrants who were in the country illegally.

The money came from a variety of national security programs, including $1.8 million from the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office and $9.8 million meant for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), according to NBC News.
The network reported that $29 million came from the U.S. Coast Guard, and more than $34 million was from different Transportation Security Administration (TSA) programs. In addition, DHS reportedly transferred $33 million from different ICE programs to pay for the removal and detention of migrants, meaning the total amount of funds transferred to the immigration agency was $202 million.

$29 million diverted from the US Coast Guard, who saves countless lives in rescuing victims of hurricane flooding? $34 million diverted from TSA, which helps keeps our airports safe? Are you kidding me? What in fuck's sake is Trump doing?
