These roughing calls are ridiculous.

Do you hear the Ref last night when making the roughing calls...the way he said it was like he was disappointed with the rule too. Like he had that "here we go again" voice as he's calling the penalty.

They need to fix this dumbass rule asap.

You noticed that too (thought I was the only one).

There is a difference in roughing the passer and a good clean hit....It is the leagues responsibility to know the difference...study some game film in the off season and get it right....

Some of these QBs are watching too much soccer and taking dives after getting touched...

The NFL's competition committee is scheduled to speak on a conference call next week about the proliferation of roughing the passer penalties, two sources told ESPN on Tuesday.
The sources said the committee is concerned about the frequency of these penalties and has voiced those concerns to the league office.
"There's some concern that the officials are going a little bit too far with some of these calls," one of the sources said.
Through three weeks, there have been 34 roughing the passer calls. Through three weeks last year, there had been 16, and through three weeks in 2016, there had been 20.
Part of the issue is that the league this year made a "point of emphasis" of a 23-year-old rule that prohibits defenders from landing on the quarterback with their full body weight or driving him into the ground with excessive force. That specific call has been a big part of the early-season controversy, though part of the issue the competition committee has is with hits that don't fit into that category -- for example, the controversial Clay Matthews hit on Kirk Cousins in Week 2 that led to the Vikings' game-tying touchdown. That play was put on the league's weekly teaching tape as an example of how not to sack the quarterback, but one of the sources said the competition committee was confused about whether that penalty should have been called.
"I don't recall ever hearing the terms 'scoop and lift' before," the source said.
The sources both said they don't expect any major changes this season, though discussions are ongoing and could eventually include officials.

Clearly this has gone a little too far. I understand the owners initial concern. The starting QBs for most teams represent a substantial amount of revenue, so it is in their best interest to make sure he stays healthy. I think it's fair to say that the 49ers viewership will go down now that Garoppolo is out for the season (I realize he wasn't injured on a roughing the passer call but I am just using him as an example of how valuable the starting QB is). With Garoppolo out, the likelihood of the 49ers having any chance of making the playoffs is nil. The games will be uninteresting and I'm sure the fans will be back to getting pennies on the dollar trying to sell those tickets to anyone interested in attending a non-competitive game. I know, even though I have the NFL Sunday Ticket, I seldom looked at Niners game prior to Garoppolo joining the team. How interesting was a Green Bay game with Rodgers out?

With that said, if they are seriously going to keep this rule in place, I would say they need to immediately implement another rule stating that all a defensive lineman has to do is touch the QB (like a game of tag) and he will be deemed sacked. I simply don't know how a lineman can be going full force into a block and racing to get to the QB and then suddenly just put the brakes on and gently put him down to the ground. It's simply absurd.

I have not seen a roughing call when the ball was in QB's hand so that might be only time roughing isn't called. Might be one not seen but I think it's like holding.

There is holding on almost every play but not always called? Same with Roughing call? Refs call and then replay either confirms or not???

How the heck does Pitt not score in 2nd 1/2? No penalties put them in Red Zone/ No Turnover put in Red Zone or end zone so Baltimore wins Sunday Night!

You're certainly entitled to your opinion. How about you not worry so much about others. Like I said, if you don't like it, don't watch it.

It's implied I stopped watching. How 'bout don't complain then if you continue watching your beloved game?
