Brett Kavanaugh once described his high school friends as a 'group of obnoxious drunks' in a letter written ahead of a week of partying in a Maryland condo.
Kavanaugh made the remark in a handwritten letter to seven of his Georgetown Prep classmates in 1983 as they descended on a property in Ocean City for 'Beach Week'.
The letter mostly gives instructions for those arriving at the condo ahead of him, but also includes several off-the-cuff remarks that have taken on new significance after he was accused of assaulting multiple women while drunk.

The existence of the letter was uncovered by the New York Times, which printed two photocopied pages of it on Tuesday.
In it, Kavanaugh expresses his fear that his group of friends could be kicked out of the pad they had rented to host their raucous celebrations.
He makes it clear that limits will have to be placed on other boys coming along from school, saying: 'We might have to give the boot or else we might get it ourselves.'
But, as far as women are concerned, his says: 'I think we are unanimous that any girls we can beg to stay there are welcomed with open... Anyway, I think we're all set.'

He the adds: 'Remember that the eight of us are in charge - we get the beds and we kick people out - no one else.
'The danger of eviction is great and that would suck because of the money and because this week has big potential (interpret as [you] wish.)'
In a post-script, he says: 'It would probably be a good idea on Saturday the 18th to warn the neighbors that we're loud, obnoxious drunks with prolific pukers among us. Advise them to go about 30 miles.'
The Times contacted Kavanaugh about the letter, who confirmed that he wrote it ahead of 'Beach Week' in the summer of 1983, but refused to comment further.
The letter has the initials 'PJ' at the top, likely a reference to Patrick J. Smyth, a friend from high school who remains close to Kavanaugh to this day.
It is not known exactly who the other seven recipients are, though it likely included Mark Judge, another friend from high school who has been accused of being present when Kavanaugh carried out his alleged assaults at similar events.
It is also significant that the letter is signed 'Bart', a name that Judge has used in his memoirs to describe a hard-drinking friend.

The letter is also signed Bart, a name which Kavanaugh's friend Mark Judge (pictured together with Judge on the left) has used in his memoirs to describe a hard-drinking friend who once 'puked in someone's car' and 'passed out on his way back from a party'

Judge wrote that a friend by the name of Bart O'Kavanaugh had once 'puked in someone's car' and 'passed out on his way back from a party' while describing a culture of 'blackout drinking' at high school.
Senators grilled Kavanaugh over the name when he came before the committee and he claimed he didn't know who Judge was referring to.
Both Smyth and Judge have been questioned by FBI agents conducting a background check into Kavanaugh following Christine Blasey Ford's claims that he attempted to rape her at a high school party.
Ford came forward with her allegations after Kavanaugh was nominated to the Supreme Court, believing it was her duty to make her story known.
Also questioned by agents is Deborah Ramirez, who says Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a similar party, also in the 80s.
Agents are due to hand a report on Kavanaugh to senators this week, who will then vote on whether to confirm him to the lifetime post.
Senator Jeff Flake, who halted the nomination process so the FBI could investigate Kavanaugh, has indicated that he would vote 'no' if it could be proven that the judge had lied in his testimony.
That makes the letter problematic for Kavanaugh, who told Amy Klobuchar during his hearing that he had never drunk so much he forgot part or all of what happened the night before.
In a testy exchange, Kavanaugh asked Klobuchar whether she had ever blacked out due to drinking, to which she replied: 'I have no drinking problem, Judge.'
He responded: 'Yeah, nor do I.'
Wavering Senators Cory Gardner of Colorado, Deb Fischer of Nebraska, Shelley Moore Capito and Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Alaska's Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan have also faced pressure to vote 'no' on Kavanaugh.
Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell has said that he is 'certain' the FBI report into Kavanaugh will be completed this week, with a vote shortly after.
Republicans are keen to have the issue done and dusted before the November mid-terms, amid the fear that both the House and Senate could flip back to Democrat control, leaving Trump a lame duck.
Indeed, Trump claims his only stipulation to the FBI when he ordered the investigation was that it be completed quickly.

Actually it showed he was the responsible one taking control of his group of friends, organizing the event and laying down parameters.

Former Fox News host Megyn Kelly says a 1983 letter a teenage Brett Kavanaugh wrote to his friends as he planned a 'Beach Week' drinking trip shows how 'responsible' he was.
Kelly came to Kavanaugh's defense during her NBC talk show on Wednesday saying that the two-page letter was impressive.
'If you read this whole letter you will be so impressed at the responsibility of this young man, saying to his roommates this is when the lease needs to be paid. It has to be paid in cash, do it upfront. You have to be respectful. ... These are the rules of the house,' she said, reading off some of Kavanaugh's handwritten notes.

Kavanaugh signed the letter 'FFFFF Bart' and added a note telling his friends it would be a good idea to warn the neighbors that 'we're loud, obnoxious drunks with prolific pukers among us'

In the letter, unearthed and published by the New York Times, Kavanaugh outlines what needs to be done before him and his friends head to Ocean City, Maryland for a trip consisting of drinking and partying.
Kavanaugh reminds his pals that they need to give the landlord the remaining payment, bring their own bed sheets and towels and control who stays at the house and who must leave.
At one point in the letter, Kavanaugh writes: 'Our problem down there might be too many people. We're going to have to decide while we are there who we want and don't want. ... If half of Gonzagg/St. John's start coming, we might have to give the boot or else we might get it ourselves.'

Kelly said the letter was 'a joke' and unearthing it doesn't 'help anyone's case'.

Kelly dismissed Kavanaugh's third accuser Julie Swetnick (pictured) saying she is not credible and her claims are a 'hot mess'

'The New York Times, they should not be focused on that,' she added.
Kelly later said she thinks the focus should be on whether Kavanaugh assaulted someone or not, before dismissing the judge's third accuser Julie Swetnick.
'The third woman, Julie Swetnick, who I don't even have time to get into her hot mess of a testimonial, but I'm no longer even including her in the accusers,' Kelly said.
'Honestly, her allegations have gone so far off the rails and her credibility issues are so severe I think we should stop talking about her.'
Swetnick is not accusing the Supreme Court nominee of sexual assault, but said he was at a party where she was allegedly gang raped.
'I was shoved into a room and I'm having my clothes torn in different directions I was touched everywhere, I was physically assaulted in every way you could possible assault a woman, it was horrible,' Swetnick recalled to MSNBC in an interview that aired on Monday.
Swetnick couldn't confirm Kavanaugh was one of the guys who allegedly assaulted her, but told MSNBC that he was a 'very aggressive, a very sloppy drunk, a very mean drunk'.

Kavanaugh has previously denied Swetnick's claims saying he does not know her and her allegations are 'ridiculous and from The Twilight Zone'.
Kelly said Swetnick's interview and her background shows she has 'severe credibility problems'.
'Let's just stop talking about her,' Kelly said. 'Let's just focus on (Christine Blasey) Ford who showed up, who was credible. You can find holes in her story but she deserves our ear'.
Ford, the first woman to launch allegations against Kavanaugh, testified in front of the senate last week on claims he allegedly tried to sexually assault her at a party when they were teenagers.
Ford said Kavanaugh pinned her down on a bed, tried to remove her clothes and covered her mouth when she tried to scream.
Kavanaugh has denied Ford's allegations, as well as allegations made by his former classmate Deborah Ramirez who said he allegedly exposed himself to her.
