The Philadelphia Flyers' performance in their home opener is one they'd like to forget, and they'll receive that opportunity in a hurry as they visit the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday. Philadelphia was trounced 8-2 by San Jose on Tuesday and has dropped two straight since recording a season-opening victory in Vegas.
The lone bright spot for the Flyers in their season debut at Wells Fargo Center was their power play, which cashed in twice on six opportunities - but allowed a short-handed goal - after going 1-for-7 over the team's first two games. Ottawa is kicking off a five-game homestand after suffering a 6-3 setback at Boston on Monday. Ryan Dzingel scored a pair of goals against the Bruins while Brady Tkachuk, who was selected with the fourth overall pick in this year's draft, saw 14:33 of ice time in his NHL debut. Defenseman Thomas Chabot, who collected 25 points in 63 games for the Senators as a rookie last season, has gotten off to a fast start with two goals and three assists over the first three contests.

ABOUT THE FLYERS (1-2-0): Wayne Simmonds leads the team with three goals after scoring his second of the season on the power play in Tuesday's setback. The 30-year-old right wing reached double digits in man-advantage tallies in six of his first seven seasons with Philadelphia, including each of the last five. Captain Claude Giroux has notched four assists over his first three contests to tie Simmonds for the team lead in points.
ABOUT THE SENATORS (1-1-1): Dzingel was a game-time decision on Monday after missing some of the previous day's practice with an undisclosed injury, while Tkachuk - the son of former NHL power forward Keith Tkachuk - sat out Ottawa's first two contests with a lower-body ailment. The 26-year-old Dzingel is one of four Senators that have landed on the scoresheet in each of the first three games. Dylan DeMelo, who was acquired last month in the deal that sent fellow defenseman Erik Karlsson to San Jose, notched two assists against Boston to give him three points in as many contests.
OVERTIME
1. Flyers LW James van Riemsdyk (lower body) missed Tuesday's game and will be sidelined 5-to-6 weeks after being injured in Colorado on Saturday.
