The Tigers win over #(2) ranked Georgia yesterday was a big as it gets, the Tigers have every reason to celebrate but there was a sad note that happened at the same time, legendary LSU running back Jim Taylor, a Member of the NFL Hall of Fame and the championship Green Bay Packer teams during the 1960s coached by Vince Lombardi died, he was 83 years old. He played in Super Bowls 1 & 2, both wins for the Packers.
I had a chance to see Taylor play at Lambeau many times and in Super Bowl (1) at the Los Angelis Coliseum, the cost of the ticket was $12,00 (for a good seat).

Taylor wasn't an ordinary running back, he was a human "battering ram", he didn't avoid tacklers, he would run into them (intentionally) and then keep on running, the defenders would pay a dear price when they tackled him. Taylor's smile was always noted by his missing front teeth......

Long time Tiger Fans have every reason to have mixed feeling after their big win yesterday while losing one of football's all-time greats.

I recall our Rx poster (LSU Pete) saying he was related to Jim Taylor.......

Mack, Jim Taylor was my Dad's all time favorite NFL player. He wasn't a big GB fan but he
loved Mr. Taylor and his toughness. He would argue with me that Jim Taylor was a better
back than Jim Brown. He just couldn't stand Brown...probably the best RB in NFL history.

Nice of you to remember Jim Taylor and how he played the game of football.

Clover, I would not have had to have met you Father to know what kind of a man he was, he loved sports and football in particular *with a passion". I assume he was a big Crimson Tide fan and would have loved Bart Starr as well, a 17th round draft choice out of Alabama who team-mated with Jim Taylor with results that are still in the record books....5 NFL championships in 7 years and 2 Super Bowl wins,,,,,,,,Those "Southern Boys" did pretty damn good up in the "frozen tundra:...

Mack,

i think ive told you this before, but Jim Taylor is my uncle. The doctors found a mass on his liver and while he was in the hospital for test, he had a cardiac event and succumbed. Thanks for your kind words and prayers.
