The first step is to always try to dehumanize the person/group of people you don't like/disagree with or is simply an annoyance. It's done to immigrants it was done to john McCain and it's trying to be done to jamal khashoggi.
The McCain thing was always an interesting case study to me...as the same group of people that would condemn NFL players for kneeling and not respecting our military stating "they serve this country and risk their lives for our freedom" also mostly celebrated the death of McCain....most stating because they didn't agree with his politics...which was also of interest because that same group would condemn anyone on the other side that would use the same reasoning.
For Immigrants its of course always showing the extreme side...it would be the same as labeling whites as mass shooters or serial killers. The majority of course never gets labeled in the United States because of the mental gymnastics it would take for use to label ourselves. But imagine if all these mass shooters where black males or immigrants or for the school shooters that these kids where immigrants or it was found out their parents where immigrants. Then an entire group/race of people are condemned. But for the most part it's white males so thankfully the person condemned is the one that should be condemned...the one that committed the crime.
