"Suspicious packages" received at multiple locations this week "contain potentially destructive devices," the FBI said.
A package sent to actor Robert De Niro, a strong critic of President Trump, was removed Thursday morning from the scene where it was found, a source told CBS News.
Other intended recipients of suspicious packages included former President Obama, former Vice President Joe Biden, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former CIA Director John Brennan, former Attorney General Eric Holder and liberal philanthropist George Soros.
All packages as of Wednesday had a return address of "Debbie Wasserman Shultz," the FBI said.
The package addressed to Brennan was sent to CNN's offices in New York City. It contained what appeared to be a live explosive device, and an envelope containing white powder, which the FBI said Thursday did not present a biological threat.
Investigators are looking into a USPS facility in Opa-Locka, Florida, where some of the packages may have originated. Officials are combing through surveillance video footage at the facility and nearby businesses.
A suspicious package addressed to Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters was intercepted Wednesday at a House mail facility, two sources told CBS News. Later that night, the LAPD said it was investigating another package found at a mail facility near Downtown Los Angeles.

At least 10 suspicious packages were sent to prominent Democrats and critics of President Trump. The latest was addressed to actor Robert De Niro and found in lower Manhattan on Thursday morning.
Other apparent bombs were sent to former President Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Vice President Joe Biden and former CIA Director John Brennan. None of the devices have exploded, and nobody was hurt.
The FBI suspected the packages are linked and warned there could be more. In a speech Wednesday night, Mr. Trump called acts or threats of political violence "an attack on democracy itself."
But he tweeted Thursday morning that so-called "Fake News" is causing anger in our society and said, "Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!"

Former Vice President Joe Biden says America has to "turn off this hate machine" after authorities intercepted two mail bombs addressed to him.
His comments for increased civility came during a campaign stop in Lancaster, New York, outside of Buffalo.
Biden says he hopes the package bombs addressed to him, former President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, CNN and others, have been "enough of a shock wave to say OK, enough is enough."
He says that Democrats and Republicans can disagree on health care but that personal attacks have "got to stop."
Two packages addressed to Biden were intercepted at Delaware mail facilities in New Castle and Wilmington.

An anti-fascist protester who was filmed harassing a woman claiming to be the widow of an NYPD cop killed in 9/11 earlier this month has been identified by the charity he worked for in a scathing statement announcing his firing.
Steve Wilson was caught on camera cursing at the woman and telling her that her husband deserved to 'rot in the grave' at the Patriot Prayer protest in Portland, Oregon, on October 13.
He started by calling her a 'f****** snarky little idiot' because she was standing in front of him and he thought she was blocking him from walking across the street.
When the woman told him her husband died in 9/11, he said: 'Good for him.'
He carried on his tirade afterwards, labeling all NYPD cops 'sodomizing f****** immigrants' and saying: 'Your f****** husband should probably should f***** rot in the grave'.

The woman has not been publicly named. Oregon Live reports that she may not be an NYPD widow and that there is no proof she was ever married to anyone who died in 9/11.
The newspaper did not name her but said they found no record of her ever living on the East Coast much less being married to anyone who died in 9/11.
As the video spread online last week, Wilson's identity remained a mystery.
A professional skateboarder who bears a striking resemblance to him was wrongly named as the person in the video and he had to fight to clear his name.
On Tuesday, Self Enhancement Inc, a non-profit organization supporting African-American youths, confirmed it was Wilson by announcing he had been fired over it.
'Steve Wilson is no longer an employee of SEI. His behavior does not represent the values of our organization or the high expectations we have for our employees,' the company said in a Twitter statement.
