The National Emergency Commission (CNE) in Costa Rica declared Green (preventive) Alert for the North Region, Caribbean, Central and South Pacific, as well as the counties of Lberia, la Cruz, Tilaran and Bagaces in Guanacaste and Sarapiqui in Heredia.

This due to the report of the National Meteorology Institute that informs of the influence of the intertropical convergence zone “which maintains important activity and could cause the gradual increase of intensity of trade winds, sporadic rain, and possible electric storms in the areas in alert”.

“Precaution is recommended on the roads, areas prone to mudslides or floods. Seek shelter in safe areas in the event of electric storms or strong winds, and avoid crossing swollen rivers”, reads the alert.

Cold front #2 is also expected to have an influence over the country late Sunday and during the day on Monday, generating strong winds of between 60-80 km/h in the mountain areas of the country, in the North Pacific and Central Valley.

The presence of the cold front and the strong winds it will bring raises the alert in the North Pacific and Caribbean as strong swell is to be expected.
