Costa Rican Wins Marine Corps Marathon in the USA

Costa Rican athlete Jenny Méndez won the 43rd edition of the Marine Corps Marathon of the Momuments that took place this Sunday, October 28 in Arlington, Virginia.

Jenny Mendez is also the 2015 Marine Corps Marathon winner in the women’s division; this year, she stopped the clock at 2:40:19 her new personal best, (in 2015 she had marked 2:45:56). Mendez was followed in second place by Army Lieutenant Lindsay Gabow and Marine Corps 2nd Lieutenant Lindsay Carrick in third position.

Méndez, is 38-years-old and was able to pull away from the rest of the competitors since early in the competition and kept a good pace, there was a difference of 6 minutes and 15 seconds between her mark and the second place woman.

This marathon, established in 1973 is considered the US’s fourth largest marathon, it does not offer cash prizes since its mission is to promote physical fitness, generate community goodwill and showcase the organizational skills of the United States Marine Corps.
